Governor Dayton signed the budget bills, but vetoed funding for the legislature<\/a> because he didn\u2019t get the bills he wanted.<\/p>\n

Some might think Dayton\u2019s move was petty and vindictive.\u00a0 I disagree.\u00a0 It was genius.\u00a0 In chess terms, he\u2019s put the Republicans in a fork \u2013 agree to a special session to give the governor what he wants in exchange for funding the legislature, or take your complaint to a court packed with judges appointed by Democrats.\u00a0 Both are losing moves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Joe is absolutely right.<\/p>\n

When all the moves are losing moves, refuse to play the game.\u00a0 The Republican Speaker of the House should say \u201cWe convinced Governor Dayton to cut spending for a third of state government, which is a good start. \u00a0Since he\u2019s defunded the Legislature, we won\u2019t be coming back into session and that means the rest of the government will shut down when this current budget runs out in two years.\u00a0 Meanwhile, I plan to enjoy a well-deserved vacation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And Joe is even more absolutely right.<\/p>\n

Of course he wouldn\u2019t mean it.\u00a0 But it ups the ante.\u00a0 Every time somebody says \u201cbut what about\u201d you point them to the Governor and say \u201cSorry, the Governor shut us down.\u00a0 Take it up with him.\u201d<\/p>\n
