{"id":62634,"date":"2017-04-03T08:36:19","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T13:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62634"},"modified":"2017-04-03T08:36:19","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T13:36:19","slug":"perception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62634","title":{"rendered":"Perception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The purpose of advertising is to influence behavior, we all know that.\u00a0 And the more people who see the advertisement, the more potential customers whose behavior is available to be influenced.\u00a0 That\u2019s why advertisers pay millions of dollars for a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl: they know they\u2019ll be influencing millions of potential customers with their ads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Which brings up the question: how long must I stare at an advertisement for it to influence me?\u00a0 Does it take the full 30-seconds for the magic to work?\u00a0 Could it happen more quickly?\u00a0 Perhaps even unconsciously?\u00a0 Does subliminal advertising work?\u00a0 Lots of researchers think so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">If they\u2019re right, I wish they\u2019d explain it to web designers.\u00a0 I click on links because I want to read the article.\u00a0 But when the web page takes forever to load, then refuses to let me click through the ad, and auto-plays videos I don\u2019t want to see . . .
