{"id":62275,"date":"2017-02-28T11:00:22","date_gmt":"2017-02-28T17:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62275"},"modified":"2017-02-27T08:55:21","modified_gmt":"2017-02-27T14:55:21","slug":"62275","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62275","title":{"rendered":"Tradition!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an ugly, stupid fringe on the edge of all political movements.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, in remembering the deaths of Ronald Reagan, Tony Snow, Gerald Ford, Antonin Scalia and others, it&#8217;s seemed like that deranged fringe cuts very close to the center of the Democrat party.<\/p>\n<p>But for one of their own?<\/p>\n<p>Alan Colmes was always the weaker half of the &#8220;Hannity and Colmes&#8221; line-up. \u00a0I suspect that was by design. \u00a0Television and radio shows featuring two equals tend to make wonky audiences happy, and bore everyone else silly. \u00a0 \u00a0Alan Colmes, I suspect, was\u00a0<em>supposed\u00a0<\/em>to be the New York Generals, to Sean Hannity&#8217;s Harlem Globetrotters; the Mister Electricity to Hannity&#8217;s Crusher.<\/p>\n<p>Also, and more importantly, he was a human being.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway &#8211; that fringe, isolated crank liberal site, Salon, gives Colmes the same treatment Janeane Garofalo and Rosie O&#8217;Donnell give departed conservative figures in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/the_slatest\/2017\/02\/23\/alan_colmes_was_fox_news_original_liberal_patsy.html\">this incredibly nasty, snarky little obit<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And while one should usually view tributes to the recently departed with a forgiving cynicism<em>[well, no &#8211; &#8220;one should&#8221; ideally not &#8211; Ed]<\/em> in this case they are all too believable: Colmes was the most absurd, useless, and mocked television personality in America for many years, precisely because he was nice. In the context of Fox News, being a nice guy\u2014and a \u201cliberal\u201d nice guy at that\u2014meant being a buffoon, and a patsy. Colmes not only played the part to perfection\u2014he defined it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Salon &#8220;writer&#8221; Isaac Chotiner continues the left&#8217;s noxious, toxic habit of whizzing on graves.<\/p>\n<p>What a wonderful world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an ugly, stupid fringe on the edge of all political movements.
