{"id":62158,"date":"2017-02-15T07:00:14","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T13:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62158"},"modified":"2017-02-15T13:20:41","modified_gmt":"2017-02-15T19:20:41","slug":"todays-facts-a-year-ago-fake-news-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62158","title":{"rendered":"Today&#8217;s Facts, A Year Ago:  Fake News Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Daily Caller notes that the &#8220;database&#8221; used by the liberal media to try to create hysteria about mass shootings, <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/02\/07\/how-left-wing-media-overstates-number-of-mass-shootings-by-factor-of-10\/#ixzz4Y7nERKtf\">overstates the number of such incidents by at least an order of magnitude<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The website \u201cMass Shooting Tracker\u201d (MST) has been regularly used by news outlets, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/national\/mass-shootings-in-america\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Post<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/rundown\/2015-the-year-of-mass-shootings\/\" target=\"_blank\">PBS<\/a>, to claim \u201cmass shootings\u201d occur much more frequently than they actually do. MST uses an alternative definition of \u201cmass shooting\u201d that greatly overstates their frequency relative to the commonly-accepted definition used by law enforcement and academics.<\/p>\n<p>MST <a href=\"https:\/\/www.massshootingtracker.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\">openly acknowledges<\/a> it uses the alternate definition to \u201cpunch a hole in the NRA argument.\u201d&#8230;MST\u2019s defines a mass shooting as any shooting where four or more people are injured or killed, not counting the shooter.
