{"id":62042,"date":"2017-02-02T06:31:19","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T12:31:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62042"},"modified":"2017-02-02T06:31:19","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T12:31:19","slug":"shirts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=62042","title":{"rendered":"Shirts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was going to start this post out with a wry quip about the irony of people protesting a president they say will oppress people, actually oppressing people.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m talking about the riots in &#8211; where else? &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/news\/article\/Protesters-storm-Milo-Yiannopoulos-event-at-UC-10901829.php\">Berkeley last night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%;\" src=\"\/\/player.hearstdigitalstudios.com\/playlists\/5892c6a2e694aa2daa43d433?\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>There, children of the wealthiest society in the history of the world, protesting others&#8217; &#8220;privilege&#8221; by shutting down a speech (by &#8220;provocateur&#8221; Milo Yiannopolous &#8211; that caused them cognitive dissonance.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, as PJ O&#8217;Rourke said, &#8220;life is full of irony &#8211; if you&#8217;re stupid&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Then it occurred to me &#8211; this is far from an original thing. \u00a0 It&#8217;s not new for political movements to have &#8220;direct action&#8221; wings, designed to radicalize the the &#8220;debate&#8221; and, eventually, the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>The easy parallel is the &#8220;Brownshirts&#8221; &#8211; <em>&#8220;<\/em><em>Sturmabteilung<\/em>&#8221; &#8211;\u00a0the &#8220;direct action&#8221; wing of the Nazi Party from the early twenties through the end of World War 2:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 459px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-6K6f67PN4qg\/U7e_PWLZJcI\/AAAAAAAAKZk\/4M3ZGXA8iYs\/s1600\/67863-004-2B89C6B0.jpg\" width=\"449\" height=\"300\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Community Organizing&#8221;. &#8220;Brownshirts&#8221; in action.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One of their primary missions &#8211; shut down political events by the Nazis&#8217; opposition.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, given this description&#8230;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The protest turned violent around 6 p.m. when dozens of masked anarchists, dressed in black and wearing backpacks, emerged from the otherwise peaceful crowd.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;a better simile might be Mussolini&#8217;s &#8220;<em>Camicii Neri<\/em>&#8221; &#8211; Blackshirts &#8211; who filled the same purpose in Italy&#8230;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/6\/65\/March_on_Rome.jpg\/640px-March_on_Rome.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"478\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Protersters&#8221; at Berkeley last night. Oh, I&#8221;m kidding. It&#8217;s Mussolini and his &#8220;Camicii Neri&#8221;.
