“Conservatives hate women” is conventional wisdom…<\/p>\n

…among people who aren’t all that wise<\/a><\/p>\n

– in this case, Politico’s <\/em>Meredith Shiner and Glenn Thrush:<\/p>\n

But the growing schism between the Republican Party\u2019s ascendant right wing and its shrinking moderate core has clear gender undertones \u2014 and Scozzafava\u2019s departure raises fresh questions about the GOP\u2019s ability to recruit, elect and even tolerate the sort of moderate women who used to be part of its ruling mainstream.<\/p>\n

While Republicans scored a pair of impressive electoral victories in New Jersey and Virginia with solid support among female voters, the events of the last week offer harbingers of serious trouble ahead with the largest swing voter bloc in the country \u2014 women.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Right.\u00a0 Because Dede Scozzafava is the only woman in the GOP.<\/p>\n

As opposed to Sarah Palin and Sarah Palin?\u00a0 Or – here in Minnesota – conservative movement stalwarts Pat Anderson and Laura Brod?<\/p>\n

The problem with this analysis?\u00a0 It\u2019s awfully selective.\u00a0 It leaves out people like Arlen Spector and Lindsey Graham, both frequent targets ofthe conservative base.\u00a0 And it also leaves out Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, both very popular figures within the resurgent conservative movement.<\/p>\n

If the tea party movement had a problem with women, why would people like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann figure so prominently in it?\u00a0 And why wouldthe opposition to so-called \u201cRINOS\u201d or \u2018moderates\u201d include both men and women?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Leave aside the fact that many of the Tea Parties – including the Twin Cities’ ones – are largely organized by…women?<\/p>\n
