{"id":61671,"date":"2017-01-09T07:00:58","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T13:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=61671"},"modified":"2019-05-21T06:55:07","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T11:55:07","slug":"unexpected-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=61671","title":{"rendered":"Unexpected!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer, when the people of the UK voted to leave the EU in the fabled &#8220;Brexit&#8221;, the same pundits who routinely\u00a0Americans for &#8220;voting against their best interests&#8221; took a time out to chide Brits for voting&#8230;against their &#8220;best interests&#8221;. \u00a0 The Brit economy was going to tank, returning the UK, if not to the Third World, at least into an impemetrable economic fog.<\/p>\n<p>The landed punditry <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/edition\/news\/britain-has-worlds-top-economy-after-brexit-rt7j9lccb\">hasn&#8217;t been doing so well this year<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Business activity hit a 17-month high last month, meaning that the economy grew by 2.2 per cent last year \u2014 more than the six other leading nations, including the US, Germany and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Far from slowing after the referendum in June, as predicted by the Treasury and Bank of England, <em>[and a rogue&#8217;s gallery of American pundits with portfolio &#8211; Ed.]\u00a0<\/em>growth appeared to have improved.
