{"id":60920,"date":"2016-11-14T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-14T12:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=60920"},"modified":"2016-11-12T19:02:57","modified_gmt":"2016-11-13T01:02:57","slug":"time-to-ring-in-some-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=60920","title":{"rendered":"Time To Ring In Some Changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back when conservative blogging was a large, signfiicant force in the 2004 elections, many of us pointed out consistently and clearly that the mainstream media&#8217;s consistent, overwhelming bias was going to render it irrelevant.<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t happen\u00a0<em>right\u00a0<\/em>away &#8211; although the 2007 recession gutted ad revenues, which certainly accelerated the process &#8211; but this past election proved us right; even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/commentary-the-unbearable-smugness-of-the-press-presidential-election-2016\/\">some parts of what we used to call the &#8220;MSM&#8221; are finally starting to figure it out<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise to anyone that, with a few exceptions, we were all tacitly or explicitly #WithHer, which has led to a certain anguish in the face of Donald Trump\u2019s victory. More than that and more importantly, <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/commentary-donald-trump-candidate-of-change\/\" target=\"_blank\">we also missed the story<\/a><\/span>, after having spent months mocking the people who had a better sense of what was going on.<\/p>\n<p>This is all symptomatic of modern journalism\u2019s great moral and intellectual failing: <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hot-takes-are-written-by-the-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\">its unbearable smugness<\/a><\/span>. Had Hillary Clinton won, there\u2019s be a winking \u201cwe did it\u201d feeling in the press, a sense that we were brave and called Trump a liar and saved the republic.<\/p>\n<p>So much for that. The audience for our glib analysis and contempt for much of the electorate, it turned out, was rather limited. This was particularly true when it came to voters, the ones who turned out by the millions to deliver not only a rebuke to the political system but also the people who cover it. <span class=\"link\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/yes-trump-can-beat-hillary-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\">Trump knew what he was doing<\/a><\/span>when he invited his crowds to jeer and hiss the reporters covering him. They hate us, and have for some time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The PR Agency Of Record<\/strong>: \u00a0And Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of the NYTimes, sent out a memo last week. \u00a0After an entire cycle carrying water for Hillary Clinton and getting pretty much absolutely everything wrong, they are &#8220;rededicating&#8221; themselves to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2016\/11\/12\/new-york-times-publisher-vows-to-rededicate-itself-to-reporting-honestly.html\">accurate and honest reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Is it &#8220;journalistic ethics&#8221;, or is it watching non-liberals turning off and unsubscribing in droves?<\/p>\n<p>You be the judge.<\/p>\n<p>BONUS QUESTION : Think you&#8217;ll see a similar memo from the Star\/Tribune&#8217;s publishers?<\/p>\n<p>Hah. \u00a0I made myself laugh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back when conservative blogging was a large, signfiicant force in the 2004 elections, many of us pointed out consistently and clearly that the mainstream media&#8217;s consistent, overwhelming bias was going to render it irrelevant.
