{"id":60420,"date":"2016-09-26T05:00:57","date_gmt":"2016-09-26T10:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=60420"},"modified":"2016-09-25T08:35:18","modified_gmt":"2016-09-25T13:35:18","slug":"exodus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=60420","title":{"rendered":"Exodus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twincities.com\/2016\/09\/16\/why-do-families-leave-st-paul-schools-surveys-offer-little-insight\/\">Why are families leaving St. Paul schools<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s2\">?\u00a0 It\u2019s a mystery.\u00a0 Now that the staff member doing the survey has been let go, we may never find out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Looking at the chart, there appears to be some overlap in causes since the percentages work out to 114% and even under Common Core math, that\u2019s not a reasonable answer.\u00a0 But just looking at the top three responses, I think I detect a pattern.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">40% said \u201cWe moved.\u201d\u00a0 I wonder why they moved?\u00a0 Better job outside the district?\u00a0 Seems unlikely, the economy isn\u2019t that robust.\u00a0 Maybe they moved to GET outside the district?\u00a0 But why would they do that? Who\u2019d want to leave the vibrant diversity of Frogtown to live in monochrome, monoculture Woodbury?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">36% said \u201cthe school was unsafe.\u201d\u00a0 But St. Paul just adopted new discipline policies to let Children Whose Lives Matter run wild.\u00a0 That\u2019ll cut down on reported discipline statistics which will be a big help, won\u2019t it?\u00a0 After the news accounts of violence in the last two years and the \u201cdon\u2019t-bother-to-catch-go-straight-to-release\u201d policy in effect, why would families think schools would be unsafe?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">30% said \u201cchild was harassed\/bullied.\u201d Well that\u2019s just whining.\u00a0 All kids are harassed and bullied, especially kids with Privilege who deserve it.\u00a0 That\u2019s no excuse to leave the school.
