{"id":59931,"date":"2016-08-11T07:00:14","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T12:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59931"},"modified":"2019-01-21T15:20:23","modified_gmt":"2019-01-21T21:20:23","slug":"iowa-minnesota-flim-flammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59931","title":{"rendered":"<strike>Iowa<\/strike> &#8220;Minnesota&#8221; Flim-Flammers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve written at some depth in the past about Minnesota Gun Rights &#8211; an astroturf fundraising group that raises a lot of money and generates a lot of strident social media about 2nd Amendment politics in Minnesota, but has never actually delivered any significant results. &nbsp; A bipartisan selection of Minnesota&#8217;s most committed pro-human-rights legislators <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=52305\">repudiated MGR <\/a>a few years back.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, they dropped a few boxes of literature in the Roz Peterson race in Burnsville &#8211; and claimed credit for the victory. &nbsp;This, and a couple of misplaced ads on AM1<code>1<\/code>30, were their total effort that cycle.<\/p>\n<p>In this primary cycle, they sent a lot of email to the Hackbarth\/Bahr race, and also direct-mailed GOP activists in the Daudt\/Duff race.<\/p>\n<p>Well, guess what?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/13876490_658436934304188_5987754586542672190_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-59932\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/13876490_658436934304188_5987754586542672190_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"13876490_658436934304188_5987754586542672190_n\" width=\"371\" height=\"282\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>MGR is claiming credit for Cal Bahr&#8217;s victory over Hackbarth in HD31B &#8211; as seen in the social-media meme that&#8217;s been circulating all day today<\/p>\n<p>Near as I&#8217;ve been able to find from my sources on the subject, MGR&#8217;s entire &#8220;campaign&#8221; in the Bahr\/Hackbarth contest was email.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s break it down: &nbsp;Tom Hackbarth had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>become not&nbsp;especially popular in his district anymore<\/li>\n<li><em>lost the endorsement&nbsp;<\/em>of a district with a very well-organized party unit.<\/li>\n<li><em>not&nbsp;<\/em>lost the endorsement of either of Minnesota&#8217;s legitimate human rights groups (GOCRA and MNGOPAC\/MNGOC), due to his flawless human rights voting record &#8211; but then, Bahr looks very strong on the issue, too, and both groups noted it).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So&nbsp;<em>sure<\/em>. &nbsp;Of&nbsp;<em>course&nbsp;<\/em>a couple of emails from MGR did the trick.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, MGR expended even more effort in the Daudt\/Duff race next door in 31A, apparently even sending paper mail &#8211; a sign of real commitment.<\/p>\n<p>And the results?
