{"id":59782,"date":"2016-08-02T05:00:34","date_gmt":"2016-08-02T10:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59782"},"modified":"2016-07-31T19:12:29","modified_gmt":"2016-08-01T00:12:29","slug":"disparately-delicious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59782","title":{"rendered":"Disparately Delicious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2016\/07\/18\/obama-cops-will-be-a-lot-safer-if-they-admit-theres-a-problem\/\"><span class=\"s2\">calling on cops<\/span><\/a> to admit they\u2019re racist and the Pioneer Press article on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twincities.com\/2016\/07\/19\/minneapolis-st-paul-regional-parks-diversity-serve-minorities\/\"><span class=\"s2\">racial disparity in regional park use<\/span><\/a> gave me an inspiration: I plan to spend the weekend observing the customers at Big Daddy\u2019s BBQ at Dale and University.\u00a0 I strongly suspect that although the percentage of Black people in the United States is only 15%, the percentage of Black customers at a BBQ joint in the heart of a predominantly Black neighborhood will be significantly higher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the past, I would have said \u201cWell, duh, it\u2019s the local joint and they have award-winning food so why wouldn\u2019t locals go there\u201d but now that I\u2019ve been educated about disparate impact, I can see it\u2019s a clear case of institutional racism against White people.\u00a0 I intend to protest this hateful practice until I get my order free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">I\u2019m having the <a href=\"http:\/\/bigdaddysbbq-stpaul.com\/menu-2\"><span class=\"s4\">half-rack of Beef ribs with collard greens and cornbread<\/span><\/a>. \u00a0Wanna join me?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Joe Doakes<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">I&#8217;m in. \u00a0See you there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">It reminds me of a story &#8211; quite possibly apocryphal &#8211; from North Dakota. \u00a0Back in the eighties, the Pentagon noted that roughly half of one percent of the population in North Dakota was black. \u00a0 They sent a letter fo the North Dakota National Guard tellling them to take care that at least 1\/2 of one percent of the NDNG were African-American &#8211; including officers and NCOs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">As the story goes, the state&#8217;s adjutant general wrote back, telling the Pentagon that the overwhelming majority of African-Americans in North Dakota were either college students, and thus only temporary residents, or already members of the United States Air Force and stationed in Minot or Grand Forks, and there really weren&#8217;t any eligible blacks to recruit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Not out of institutional racism &#8211;
