{"id":59428,"date":"2016-06-29T08:00:59","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T13:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59428"},"modified":"2016-06-28T16:16:26","modified_gmt":"2016-06-28T21:16:26","slug":"consequences-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59428","title":{"rendered":"Consequences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some of my circle of acquaintances are deeply pessimistic about the &#8220;Brexit&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Without the EU&#8221;, they say, &#8220;the standard of living in the UK will plummet. \u00a0They&#8217;ll be frozen out of trade; they&#8217;re blowing up their own economies, setting themselves back decades!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll note that most of the acquaintances are the types who seem themselves as amateur versions of the globalist wonks that run things like, well, the EU and the UN, not to mention things like the Met Council and anything with &#8220;Urban Studies&#8221; attached.<\/p>\n<p>And the have a point.<\/p>\n<p>Watching the Brexit, I&#8217;m recalling what happened when Switzerland opted out of joining the EU.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 517px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_P6aci-a6BzM\/TI1JzwDk5sI\/AAAAAAAAAnU\/_7mp3TWQ7Tg\/s1600\/11.3+Manila_slums.jpg\" width=\"507\" height=\"383\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the nicer neighborhoods in Geneva, Switzerland.
