LIBRELLE: \u00a0Hey, Merg! \u00a0The case of workplace violence in Orlando proves that it’s time for America to get serious about guns.<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0 \u00a0We did. \u00a0Or at least parts of the country did; the parts that ratcheted up the penalties for gun crimes, and seriously prosecuted straw buyers, saw a marked decrease in gun crimes. \u00a0 Of course, that wasn’t “sexy” enough for the Democrat-run governments of most major cities – so while the rest of the nation’s crime rate plummets, in major Democrat-run cities it’s rising…<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0I’m already bored. \u00a0 The Orlando workplace violence episode proves that guns are no defense.<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0 It showed that a cop working security was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that Mateen, unlike most mass shooters, didn’t fold up when he ran into resistance. \u00a0 As might befit someone who was carrying out a terror attack, as opposed to someone just seeking immortality as a spree killer. \u00a0That’s just a theory…<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0…I’m still bored.<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0Well, bore yourself with this; had a any person in that club had a legal, permitted firearm, they could have stopped the shooting.<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0Can you guarantee that?<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0 There are no guarantees in life. \u00a0But I’d like to talk you through three hypothetical scenarios.<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0Don’t make me bored!<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0 What’s with the boredo…oh, never mind .<\/p>\n
Scenario 1: \u00a0You’re out at a bar. \u00a0Someone starts shooting. \u00a0 People around you are getting hit left and right.<\/p>\n
Suddenly, a schlub nearby sees an opportunity while the shooter is shooting the other way; they draw their legal handgun, and they kill the attacker.<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0That’s unrealistic.<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0Why?<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0The attacker would shoot them first. \u00a0 \u00a0They’d sense they were about to be attacked, and turn and kill them. \u00a0Which would just make it worse for everyone else in the club.<\/p>\n
BERG: \u00a0What, you think mass shooters are superman ninja warriors or something?<\/p>\n
LIBRELLE: \u00a0Doesn’t matter. \u00a0That never happens.<\/p>\n
