{"id":59199,"date":"2016-06-15T11:30:45","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T16:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59199"},"modified":"2016-06-15T08:10:13","modified_gmt":"2016-06-15T13:10:13","slug":"stuck-on-full-auto-stupid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59199","title":{"rendered":"Stuck On Full-Auto Stupid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most frustrating things about being a Second Amendment supporter is that, for the most part, the parts of the media that aren&#8217;t misinformed are, actively or passively, spreading disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Not the worst example is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/crime\/firing-ar-15-horrifying-dangerous-loud-article-1.2673201\">this column yesterday<\/a> from the left-leaning New York Daily News.<\/p>\n<p>Well, no. \u00a0It may be one for the bad-gun-grabber-article hall of fame. \u00a0An epic.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s take a step back.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever I &#8211; like a lot of my fellow Real Americans in the Second Amendment movement &#8211; hear about another wave of gun control hysteria, I silently steel myself for another encounter with the inanity of Every Crusading Anti-Gun Media Figure and their invincible, comical ignorance about the subject.<\/p>\n<p>And NYDN writer Gersh Kuntzman (what else?) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/crime\/firing-ar-15-horrifying-dangerous-loud-article-1.2673201\">delivered<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It feels like a bazooka \u2014 and sounds like a cannon.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>More on this later.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style assault weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.<\/p>\n<p>But mostly, I was just terrified.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ll save you some time; \u00a0the writer went to Philadelphia to find the single anti-gun gun shop owner in the entire US, an obnoxious European guy who may be the one gun store owner in the US who can be made to come across sympathetically to a New York liberal audience.<\/p>\n<p>(Tangent: \u00a0Kuntzman tittered approvingly over this bit: \u00a0&#8220;He also said he never sells a gun to someone who \u201clooks a little bit funny,\u201d and he claimed he had prevented many guns from getting into the wrong hands because the would-be purchaser \u201casked stupid questions&#8230;&#8221;. \u00a0So &#8211; not selling products to people he doesn&#8217;t believe in selling products to? \u00a0Huh. \u00a0What a concept).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway &#8211; remember what I said above about growing impatient with antis who clearly know nothing about the subject? \u00a0I&#8217;ve added emphasis:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Many gun shops turned down our request to fire and discuss the AR-15, a style of <strong>tactical machine<\/strong> gun popular with mass killers such as San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook and Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not a machine gun. \u00a0It&#8217;s not a machine gun. \u00a0It&#8217;s not a machine gun. \u00a0Not if you&#8217;re a civilian. \u00a0Again &#8211; it&#8217;s not a machine gun.<\/p>\n<p>And popularity with psychos and terrorists aside, it&#8217;s also the most popular single civilian long arm in American history. \u00a0Over five million are in circulation. \u00a0 But then most of you know that.<\/p>\n<p>Then came the big payoff. \u00a0 Kuntzman took his turn at the firing line:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I\u2019ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The video is hard to find &#8211; but judging from the photo&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.nydailynews.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.2673187.1465916231!\/img\/httpImage\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/article_1200\/20160614-ar15gunshop-still2.jpg\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;it might help if Kuntzman wasn&#8217;t holding the stock with his teeth.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>The recoil bruised my shoulder<\/strong>. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ve shot several ARs. \u00a0They kick like BB guns.<\/p>\n<p>How light is the kick? \u00a0 \u00a0Light enough for a seven year old girl to shoot comfortably and accurately:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sk-qAlU4ODM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And this?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The explosions \u2014 loud like a bomb \u2014 gave me a temporary case of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Temporary PTSD?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do you say, veterans?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to squeeze off two dozen rounds before you even know what has happened. In fully automatic mode, it doesn\u2019t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But it\u00a0<em>does\u00a0<\/em>take imagination, Gersh, because your AR15 didn&#8217;t have it.<\/p>\n<p>So yet again &#8211; we who care about this nation&#8217;s Second Amendment human rights are being lectured by the utterly ignorant.<\/p>\n<p>Same as it ever was.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the most frustrating things about being a Second Amendment supporter is that, for the most part, the parts of the media that aren&#8217;t misinformed are, actively or passively, spreading disinformation.
