{"id":59167,"date":"2016-06-13T11:00:42","date_gmt":"2016-06-13T16:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59167"},"modified":"2020-07-28T17:59:53","modified_gmt":"2020-07-28T22:59:53","slug":"lie-first-lie-always-and-out-come-the-ghouls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=59167","title":{"rendered":"Lie First, Lie Always:  And Out Come The Ghouls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The last spent cartridge casing had barely pinged off the ground when the ghouls of Minnesota&#8217;s &#8220;Safe Criminals&#8221;\u00a0movement came streaking out of the shadows to rip the bloody shirts off the (ahem)\u00a0<em>victims of an ISIS terror attack\u00a0<\/em>to try to jam their agenda down our throats.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Norton &#8211; fresh from utter failure in the legislature, and apparently on her way to a fat, cushy job with a pro-murderer-safety\u00a0non-profit:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-59166 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363.jpg\" width=\"1220\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363.jpg 1220w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363-300x68.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363-768x174.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363-1024x232.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img_0361-e1465818621363-500x113.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1220px) 100vw, 1220px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Theatrical deep breath, here.<\/p>\n<p>OK. \u00a0From the top:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Universal Background Checks<\/strong>: \u00a0For whatever reason, notwithstanding the fact that Omar Mateen had been under investigation for his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2016\/06\/12\/terrorist-omar-mateen-gay-nightclub-murder\/\">terrorist sympathies<\/a> and was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridatoday.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2016\/06\/12\/who-omar-mateen\/85791280\/\">famously unstable<\/a>, Mateen didn&#8217;t come up on any background checks. \u00a0Why? \u00a0Bad reporting? \u00a0Official political correctness? \u00a0Let&#8217;s assume both. \u00a0Either way &#8211; while &#8220;universal background checks&#8221; would have made owning a gun harder for any of Mateen&#8217;s potential victims, it would have done nothing to stop him.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rethink Carry Laws<\/strong>: \u00a0OK, let&#8217;s think. \u00a0Had\u00a0<em>one single gay man in that bar<\/em> &#8211; a &#8220;gun free zone&#8221;, as usual &#8211; had a gun, it might have changed the course of events (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?page_id=55536\">as it does<\/a> more often than our disinformed, and sometimes disinforming, media believes). \u00a0Of course, carrying a gun in a bar is a misdemeanor in Florida, which seems not to have been much of a deterrent to Mateen. \u00a0So yes, maybe it&#8217;s time to &#8220;rethink&#8221; the law to de-stigmatize the law-abiding citizen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not &#8220;normalizing carrying&#8221;<\/strong>: \u00a0Ever notice how places where\u00a0<em>law-abiding citizens\u00a0<\/em>normally carry are almost never the target of mass shootings or terror attacks? \u00a0And when they are, the attacks are <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2007_Colorado_YWAM_and_New_Life_shootings\">more likely to end with dead shooters<\/a> and terrorists?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So yes, Kim Norton &#8211; take a moment to stop gorging yourself on the blood of innocent victims and do some re-thinking. \u00a0 Please.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Kim Norton is a gun-grabbing ninny because she gets paid for it (or will be, soon). \u00a0 \u00a0Rabbi Latz &#8211; apparently the brother of Senator Ron &#8220;I Went To Harvard, Don&#8217;t You Know&#8221; Latz &#8211; tweeted in response to a local human rights advocate who pointed out exactly what I pointed out to Rep.
