Choo Choo Trains Are The New “Shutdown”<\/strong>: \u00a0As of yesterday, the Legislature had reached an agreement on a Bonding\u00a0Bill. \u00a0 The bill had been through conference committee. \u00a0The DFL Senate and GOP House had agreed to a bill\u00a0without funding the Southwest Light Rail Transit<\/em> line – a big GOP promise. \u00a0The bill – as bills coming out of Conference Committee are supposed to be – was\u00a0ready for the governor’s signature. \u00a0<\/em>It was ready to be passed with no further fanfare,\u00a0assuming both sides went at it in good faith, of course).<\/p>\nAs always, the DFL did not.<\/p>\n
Two Minute Drill<\/strong>: \u00a0\u00a0With five, count ’em,\u00a0five<\/em>, count ’em again,\u00a0five minutes left in the session<\/em>, the DFL introduced an amendment reintroducing Southwest Light Rail into the Bonding\u00a0Bill.<\/p>\nCould this be because the DFL really likes their trains, and really really wants to see the choo choo built to Eden Prairie?<\/p>\n
Could be.<\/p>\n
More likely? \u00a0As DFL legislative candidates are starting to fan out across the state, trying to woo voters in a year when they have a Presidential option not much more inspiring than Ole Savior, the\u00a0DFL wanted to induce a crisis – the death of the Bonding\u00a0Bill, funding one of this state’s precious few legitimate jobs – and turn around and blame it on the GOP.<\/p>\n
So the Transportation Bill didn’t “implode”, “melt down” or “collapse”. \u00a0 It was given a poison pill. \u00a0It was blown up. \u00a0It was shot in the face.<\/p>\n
