{"id":58405,"date":"2016-04-15T07:00:45","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T12:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=58405"},"modified":"2016-04-14T16:17:21","modified_gmt":"2016-04-14T21:17:21","slug":"home-to-roost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=58405","title":{"rendered":"Home To Roost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ten years ago, the transit-happy left pointed to the DC Metro as an example of how urban mass transit could be done.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, they said? \u00a0It was less of a money pit than anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>Unmentioned (except from the right): \u00a0they shaved money by deferring maintenance. \u00a0Equipment and facilities that were supposed to have a thirty-year service life has been soldiering on, deferring maintance, for forty years.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/122569415-story\">starting to cause problems<\/a>; a series of public meltdowns including a train that spent an hour stuck\u00a0<em>under\u00a0<\/em>the Potomac river yesterday:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A female passenger on the disabled train told us she will no longer use Metro after this incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSay no to Metro,\u201d she said. \u201cI haven\u2019t done it in a while and to be on a brand new car \u2013 no \u2026 I got better ways to go. I\u2019ve got two feet.
