{"id":57984,"date":"2016-03-14T11:30:31","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T16:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57984"},"modified":"2016-03-12T10:51:18","modified_gmt":"2016-03-12T16:51:18","slug":"aaron-rupar-all-is-forgiven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57984","title":{"rendered":"Come Back, Aaron Rupar:  All Is Forgiven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To: \u00a0The City Pages<br \/>\nFrom: \u00a0Mitch Berg, Uppity Peasant<br \/>\nRe: \u00a0You Suck<\/p>\n<p>Dear &#8220;City Pages&#8221;,<\/p>\n<p>While you&#8217;ve always been a freebie hipster lifestyle &#8216;zine, you used to have some great writing. \u00a0Thirty years ago, you were the home of Lileks and Jim DeRogatis.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty years ago, led by Steve Perry, \u00a0you had some great journalism &#8211; as in, some of the best reporting in the Twin Cities. \u00a0And as smugly left-of-center as you&#8217;ve always been, you surprised us; under Perry&#8217;s watch, you were the first newspaper in town to\u00a0<em>fairly and accurately\u00a0<\/em>cover the Concealed Carry debate. \u00a0I said so at the time, and I say it now &#8211; kudos.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Today, though?<\/p>\n<p>Just saying &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citypages.com\/news\/the-hottest-hotties-of-the-minnesota-legislature-8115175\">this kind of fratboy drunk-Facebooking pablum<\/a> would have been laughed out of my high school newspaper. \u00a0And <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citypages.com\/news\/bill-would-bring-universal-background-checks-on-gun-sales-cue-the-backlash-8114733\">this piece here might legitimately make someone wonder<\/a> if the\u00a0<em>City Pages\u00a0<\/em>is getting money, directly or indirectly, from Bloomberg (more tomorrow).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which &#8211; is\u00a0<em>City Pages\u00a0<\/em>getting money from Bloomberg?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s almost, but not quite, a Berg&#8217;s Law; whenever you think the City Pages <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/archives\/005309.html\">can&#8217;t get any dumber<\/a>, it will get dumber.<\/p>\n<p>That is all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To: \u00a0The City Pages From: \u00a0Mitch Berg, Uppity Peasant Re: \u00a0You Suck Dear &#8220;City Pages&#8221;, While you&#8217;ve always been a freebie hipster lifestyle &#8216;zine, you used to have some great writing. \u00a0Thirty years ago, you were the home of Lileks and Jim DeRogatis.
