{"id":57781,"date":"2016-03-02T06:00:14","date_gmt":"2016-03-02T12:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57781"},"modified":"2016-02-27T08:20:48","modified_gmt":"2016-02-27T14:20:48","slug":"radio-daze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57781","title":{"rendered":"Radio Daze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It occurs to me &#8211; even though we&#8217;ve got all the internet we want these days, I&#8217;ve never gone out and looked up a lot of the people I used to know in the radio business.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, from\u00a0my first, probably most &#8220;famous&#8221; gig in Twin Cities radio &#8211; KSTP, thirty years ago &#8211; some of them are all too easy. \u00a0Don Vogel died over twenty years ago; John MacDougal, not long after that. \u00a0Cathy Wurzer has been part of the furniture at MPR for almost as long. \u00a0Mark Boyle has been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/pacers\/mark_boyle_bio_page.htmlhttp:\/\/www.nba.com\/pacers\/mark_boyle_bio_page.html\">the voice of the Indiana Pacers<\/a> for a quarter century now; his sports sidedkick Bruce Gordon is a communications guy with the State of Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>But of the people who were on the air, the one I get asked about the most is Geoff Charles. \u00a0The self-styled former-marine \/ former hippie and the only person in American media who&#8217;s farther out than Art Bell, who was just as mercurial and enigmatic in person as he was on the air (and one of the genuinely nicest people I&#8217;ve ever met in the racket, once I started working for him) is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;utterly, counterintuitively, a <a href=\"http:\/\/94hjy.iheart.com\/onair\/charles-678\/\">long-time fixture in radio in Providence, Rhode Island<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And the idea of G Charles staying\u00a0<em>anywhere\u00a0<\/em>that long is a psychic acid trip in its own right.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It occurs to me &#8211; even though we&#8217;ve got all the internet we want these days, I&#8217;ve never gone out and looked up a lot of the people I used to know in the radio business.
