{"id":57642,"date":"2016-03-04T06:00:45","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T12:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57642"},"modified":"2016-03-03T07:45:20","modified_gmt":"2016-03-03T13:45:20","slug":"they-dont-give-participation-trophies-for-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57642","title":{"rendered":"They Don&#8217;t Give Participation Trophies For Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minneapolis and St. Paul schools <a href=\"http:\/\/m.startribune.com\/minnesota-achools-not-closing-education-gaps-new-state-report-shows\/368987671\/\">continue to fail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"Text_Body\">Hundreds of school districts in the state are not making significant progress in closing achievement gaps, including the state\u2019s largest urban districts, Minneapolis and St. Paul.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text_Body\">All Minnesota school districts and charter schools are required to improve reading and math test scores, boost graduation rates and cut achievement gaps for all students, under a state law passed in 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text_Body\">But in its first progress report, the Minnesota Department of Education says that many are not meeting their targets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Text_Body\">If they do not meet their goals by the 2017-18 school year, some of their state funding could be in jeopardy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"Text_Body\">(Not to worry. \u00a0They&#8217;ll find a way to keep the parts of the machine that matter &#8211; the parts that pay dues back to Education Minnesota and thence the DFL &#8211; funded one way or another).<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the Minnesota media is parroting the schools&#8217; line that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2016\/02\/22\/minnesota-high-school-graduation-gaps-narrowing-slowly\">graduation rates are &#8220;rising&#8221;, albeit slowly<\/a>. \u00a0 This, a year after they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjchNz40aTLAhVnsYMKHb3SDRsQFggcMAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.startribune.com%2Fminn-high-school-graduation-rate-rises-to-81%2F293833351%2F&amp;usg=AFQjCNHC7CX8uUM9yYGsFEeXlguW1o7zSg&amp;sig2=K7XCVFDBazdvj50_ouEvhw\">rapturously reported<\/a> a big jump.<\/p>\n<p>Unmentioned; we got a big jump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=4&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwi4i-Ow0qTLAhWikYMKHbbqARwQFggwMAM&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.minnpost.com%2Flearning-curve%2F2012%2F12%2Ffew-would-likely-mourn-end-minnesotas-high-school-exit-tests&amp;usg=AFQjCNEuOwu-beCd5e3W6I112d6KCJQrPg&amp;sig2=8c5J1qo3-iOkt8XcnVW7qw&amp;bvm=bv.115339255,d.amc\">after Minnesota dropped its graduation testing<\/a>. \u00a0 So\u00a0<em>of course\u00a0<\/em>we had a big jump one year, followed by a trickle of &#8220;improvement&#8221; since then.<\/p>\n<p>In unrelated news that&#8217;s probably related? \u00a0They also lowered the standards to get a GED. \u00a0So that&#8217;s looking better now, too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minneapolis and St. Paul schools continue to fail.
