{"id":57520,"date":"2016-02-16T07:00:14","date_gmt":"2016-02-16T13:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57520"},"modified":"2016-02-12T09:51:39","modified_gmt":"2016-02-12T15:51:39","slug":"enjoying-the-tailspin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=57520","title":{"rendered":"Enjoying The Tailspin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hate Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>There. \u00a0I said it.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter is the most annoying social media outlet (at least among the ones I use; I&#8217;ve come to cordially detest &#8220;Vine&#8221; videos, but I don&#8217;t use them, either). \u00a0Twitter has become a necessary evil for self-marketing; I use Twitter for promoting blog and show content and following pundits in semi-real time, in theory, except that I make about as little time to spend on Twitter as I can get away with. \u00a0It&#8217;s nearly useless as a form of communication; it&#8217;s 300 million people shouting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;and mostly doing it badly. \u00a0The 140 character limit had been one of the greatest blows to literacy in history &#8211; and yes, I know, learning how to fit a coherent thought into 140 characters\u00a0<em>can\u00a0<\/em>teach a writer a lot about economizing, if they&#8217;re inclined to learn those lessons. \u00a0But of 300-million odd Twitter users, perhaps three or four dozen are so inclined.<\/p>\n<p>Twitter is a banal, but very urgent, wasteland.<\/p>\n<p>And so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/blogs\/economist-explains\/2016\/02\/economist-explains-5\">if it were to collapse and disappear from the public discourse<\/a>, I&#8217;d dance around the fire, myself.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hate Twitter.
