{"id":56903,"date":"2016-01-04T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2016-01-04T12:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=56903"},"modified":"2016-01-03T09:08:15","modified_gmt":"2016-01-03T15:08:15","slug":"top-secret","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=56903","title":{"rendered":"Top Secret"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shhh. \u00a0You didn&#8217;t get it from me.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, why the cloak and dagger? \u00a0Because apparently I&#8217;m revealing a state secret. \u00a0Or at least that&#8217;s how the media&#8217;s treatment of the story feels.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the story of the US homicide rate over the past 120 years. \u00a0And it elaborates on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=44481\">the bit I wrote about here a while back<\/a> &#8211; that while murder rates are down over the past twenty years by something like 50%, a rate that the media would have\u00a0hailed as a miracle if it&#8217;d applied to drunk driving or cancer deaths.<\/p>\n<p>But 56% of the American people had no idea &#8211; because the media made sure they had no idea.<\/p>\n<p>And if they don&#8217;t know about the past twenty years, you can bet the last hundred are as opaque as the pit of Michael Moore&#8217;s soul.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-56907\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Murder-Rates-Since-1900.bmp\" alt=\"Murder Rates Since 1900\" width=\"1502\" height=\"852\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The graph is based on FBI stats\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov\/content\/glance\/tables\/hmrttab.cfm\">from 1900 to 1991<\/a>\u00a0and from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/about-us\/cjis\/ucr\/crime-in-the-u.s\/2011\/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011\/tables\/table-1\">1992 to 2011.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But what else does it track with?<\/p>\n<p>Why, gun control efforts, naturally:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/www.politisite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/us-historical-homicide-chart-450x268.gif?resize=350%2C200\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The source of this graph is opaque (which is why I ran the first graph at the top), but the numbers generally jibe with the FBI figures.<\/p>\n<p>The first major post-civil-war gun control measures &#8211; mostly aimed at immigrants and blacks &#8211; were a little over 100 years ago. \u00a0Murder spiked during our first big experiment with prohibition. \u00a0A second major surge began around the time of the 1968 &#8220;Gun Control Act&#8221; and the &#8220;War on Drugs&#8221;, and tailed off as not only the ownership but the carry of guns by civilians became ubiquitous outside &#8220;progressive&#8221; circles and Demcrat-run crime cesspools.<\/p>\n<p>Correlation doesn&#8217;t equal causation, of course.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s a lot of correlation.<\/p>\n<p>A lot. \u00a0Of. \u00a0Correlation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shhh. \u00a0You didn&#8217;t get it from me.
