Fa La La La La, La La La Lawless."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minneapolis City Councilwoman Alondra Cano makes no bones about the fact that she&#8217;s a progressive. \u00a0Her Twitter bio begins &#8220;Daughter of the Third World Feminist movement&#8221;, which may or may not be true, but she&#8217;s certainly a product of the sort of unbridled prosperity that First World free-marketeering has wrought; it takes a lot of prosperity to make a public life like hers sustainable. \u00a0And thank goodness for that prosperity &#8211; since <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.mprnews.org\/newscut\/2015\/06\/mpls-leader-imagines-pedal-powered-peanut-butter-plant\/\">her future as an industrial engineer looks dim indeed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At any rate, she spent a good chunk of yesterday on social media rooting for Black Lives Matter&#8217;s protest at the Mall of America. \u00a0And while Ms Cano seems as confused about the distinction between public and private property as the rest of the City Council usually does, I&#8217;ll certainly defend her right to protest in favor of or against anything she wants.<\/p>\n<p>Provided, of course, she doesn&#8217;t abuse her office to do it.<\/p>\n<p>And we&#8217;ve got a problem, there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chicago-y<\/strong>: \u00a0On her <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/People4Alondra\">Twitter feed<\/a> yesterday, she went around and around with some of her critics.<\/p>\n<p>Including, as it happens, some who&#8217;d written to her on her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us\/ward9\/contact-ward9\">City of Minneapolis feedback form<\/a> &#8211; the one people use on the City website to send her feedback.<\/p>\n<p>She took to posting some of the responses she disagreed with. \u00a0<strong>Note<\/strong>: \u00a0While I redacted personal information, including phone numbers, email addresses and home addresses, from the screenshots, Ms. Cano did not:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56800 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-1.png\" alt=\"Cano 1\" width=\"440\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-1.png 440w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-1-263x300.png 263w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56801 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-2.png\" alt=\"Cano 2\" width=\"446\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-2.png 446w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano-2-268x300.png 268w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 446px) 100vw, 446px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56802 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano3.png\" alt=\"Cano3\" width=\"428\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano3.png 428w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano3-263x300.png 263w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 428px) 100vw, 428px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And this condescending little jape:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56803 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano4.png\" alt=\"Cano4\" width=\"448\" height=\"492\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano4.png 448w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Cano4-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When people\u00a0tried to call &#8220;foul&#8221; on Twitter, Cano responded:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-56804 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CanoAccountable.png\" alt=\"CanoAccountable\" width=\"481\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CanoAccountable.png 481w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/CanoAccountable-300x146.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Emails may be public &#8211; but <strong>one might ask why a public official is posting citizens data on Twitter, when they contacted her via the City&#8217;s contact form<\/strong>. \u00a0Because she expects them to be reading Twitter? \u00a0Seems unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>And while she pleads &#8220;public data&#8221;, you&#8217;ll note that she only published the names, email and home addresses of detractors, not supporters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In short, Cano used her city social media presence and city-supplied data to try to intimidate constituents who disagreed with her. \u00a0Furthermore, she used city-supplied data to stump for Black Lives Matter. \u00a0<\/strong>While Cano has every right to believe what she wants, and protest on their behalf, using data from a city web form to intimidate citizens is grossly inappropriate.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56809\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56809\" class=\"wp-image-56809\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/screenshot-twitter.com-2015-12-23-20-44-40.png\" alt=\"screenshot-twitter.com 2015-12-23 20-44-40\" width=\"403\" height=\"93\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-56809\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It&#8217;s hard out there for a member of a major urban political elite.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So while Ms. Cano &#8211; an elected officeholder and high-ranking member of a power structure that has boundless power over a major American city &#8211; may try to eke out a shard of victimhood out of the fact that anyone would ask&#8230;:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56808\" style=\"width: 455px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56808\" class=\"wp-image-56808 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/screenshot-twitter.com-2015-12-23-21-13-27.png\" alt=\"screenshot-twitter.com 2015-12-23 21-13-27\" width=\"445\" height=\"86\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/screenshot-twitter.com-2015-12-23-21-13-27.png 445w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/screenshot-twitter.com-2015-12-23-21-13-27-300x58.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-56808\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I haven&#8217;t seen the term &#8220;womyn&#8221; used unironically in twenty years.
