{"id":56250,"date":"2015-11-24T06:00:55","date_gmt":"2015-11-24T12:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=56250"},"modified":"2016-03-10T10:22:57","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T16:22:57","slug":"a-good-guy-with-no-gun-allowed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=56250","title":{"rendered":"A Good Guy With No Gun Allowed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of factoids to start with, first:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For over a decade, now &#8211; since law Enforcement&#8217;s disastrous response to Columbine &#8211; law enforcement &#8220;active shooter&#8221; doctrine and training has emphasized resisting active shooters. \u00a0Their attacks are almost always more or less meticulously planned; resistance throws the plans off, and disrupts the shooters&#8217; fantasy state.<\/li>\n<li>Homeland Security, in the wake of all earlier\u00a0advice about staying calm and going along with terrorists&#8217; demands flying out the window on 9\/11, now advises people to resist hijackings, if they can.<\/li>\n<li>Nonetheless, major urban police chiefs &#8211; including Saint Paul&#8217;s chief, Tim Smith\u00a0&#8211; poo-pooh the idea that a &#8220;good guy with a gun&#8221; can ever have a positive effect on a dangerous situation. \u00a0They are, of course, universally appointees who serve at the pleasure of Democrat mayors and city councilors, so it&#8217;s to be expected they&#8217;ll repeat their masters&#8217; lies, even though <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?page_id=55536\">the truth is out there in black and white<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With those out of the way, let&#8217;s get to the story:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tear &#8216;Em Up!<\/strong>: \u00a0The chief of the Washington Police Department is <a href=\"http:\/\/m.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2015\/nov\/22\/cathy-lanier-dc-police-chief-urges-public-to-take-\/\">urging the public\u00a0to &#8220;take down&#8221; active shooters<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0&#8220;Your options are run, hide, or fight,\u201d the D.C. police chief said. \u201cIf you\u2019re in a position to try and take the gunman down, to take the gunman out, it\u2019s the best option for saving lives before police can get there.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, that sounds both commonsensical and in line with current law-enforcement thinking on the subject (as we noted above).<\/p>\n<p>Now, there are many ways to &#8220;take down&#8221; a gunman. \u00a0If you&#8217;re a highly trained ninja, there&#8217;s all sorts of ninja fu. \u00a0Or you can charge at them and hit them with a bottle, a tablecloth, a book, or a WWE sleeper hold.<\/p>\n<p>Or those diligent civilians could use the most effective means of self-defense there is; a firearm. \u00a0A legal\u00a0handgun. \u00a0Police know as well as anyone else that someone resisting a lethal force attack with lethal force is four times as likely to survive as someone who who resists with non-leethal force, and seven times as likely as those who don&#8217;t resist.<\/p>\n<p>Civilians can &#8211; and do &#8211; avail themselves of this constitutional, legal and deadly effective means of defending themselves against crime, whether lowly street crime or a would-be mass-shooter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Half-Baked<\/strong>: \u00a0Or at least they can\u00a0in most of the United States. \u00a0But not if they&#8217;re in DC.<\/p>\n<p>Lanier \u2013 police chief for a city that still actively fights against\u00a0civilian gun rights \u2013 is apparently endorsing the &#8220;good guy with a gun&#8221; idea that the National Rifle Association and every other gun rights group (and, incidentally, current\u00a0police training regarding active shooters\u00a0these days) endorses \u2013 only without the gun.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, she&#8217;s advising people to do battle with murderous maniacs &#8211; only without the means to make it anything but nearly suicidal.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s endorsing every part of the &#8220;Good Guy with a Gun&#8221; scenario but the gun &#8211; the part that makes it work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of factoids to start with, first: For over a decade, now &#8211; since law Enforcement&#8217;s disastrous response to Columbine &#8211; law enforcement &#8220;active shooter&#8221; doctrine and training has emphasized resisting active shooters. \u00a0Their attacks are almost always more or less meticulously planned; resistance throws the plans off, and disrupts the shooters&#8217; fantasy state.
