Mother gives birth but can\u2019t afford to feed Child. What should happen?<\/p>\n
Mother gives Child up for adoption? No, Mother threatens to let Child starve to death \u2013 unless federal government pays up.<\/p>\n
So, to save Child\u2019s life, federal government takes money away from Stranger to give to Mother to purchase food Child.<\/p>\n
But Child needs more than food, Child needs shelter. Mother threatens to let Child freeze to death, so Fed takes Stranger\u2019s money to pay for Mother\u2019s rent.<\/p>\n
A sick Child needs medical treatment. Mother threatens to let Child die, so Fed takes . . . .<\/p>\n
The threat is never explicit; it doesn\u2019t need to be. We know Child will die if we don\u2019t pay up if we don\u2019t meet this ransom demand, and the next, and the next.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not actually like giving a mouse a cookie, it\u2019s more like The Spanish Prisoner. And everybody knows that\u2019s an unconscionable scam.<\/p>\n
