{"id":55848,"date":"2015-10-27T12:00:18","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T17:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=55848"},"modified":"2015-10-27T12:14:20","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T17:14:20","slug":"the-stupidity-of-crowds-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=55848","title":{"rendered":"Going Long On The Stupidity Of Crowds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of this blog writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but most of the people think of the bicycle lobby as the leisure class, so it is interesting that one <a href=\"http:\/\/streets.mn\/2015\/10\/22\/transportation-and-the-status-quo-in-saint-paul\/\">of them is now admitting that we lower class taxpayers are indeed building this infrastructure<\/a> for the elites.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The piece, on the transportation\/transit site &#8220;Streets.mn&#8221;, is by our old friend Ken &#8220;Avidor&#8221; Weiner, who since the retirement of Michele Bachmann seems to have mostly vanished from view, but for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0CCoQFjAAahUKEwinuZvtnuDIAhWGQiYKHewvD_Y&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.minnpost.com%2Fline%2F2014%2F12%2Fembracing-creative-nexus-bikes-transit-and-art&amp;usg=AFQjCNHk6Q0OTrheYwhC3gRZGo4fEOB9AA&amp;sig2=lxu32M8vVdU6nyahR4cKvQ\">the odd warm and fuzzy from a Twin Cities media<\/a> that always seems to keep its lefty &#8220;eccentrics&#8221; in its orbit.<\/p>\n<p>Its premise: \u00a0biking is becoming chic, and it&#8217;s up to the working-class rubes to keep up with the Joneses in Minneapolis, with their chic world-class bikeability rating,\u00a0because of\u00a0<em>collective<\/em><em>\u00a0pride. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now, don&#8217;t get me wrong; I love biking. \u00a0I do a fair amount of it. \u00a0And I do appreciate the taxpayers of Minneapolis, building me all those nice paths (although less so those stupid downtown lanes, squished between the parking lane and the curb, and sometimes seemingly paved with broken glass, and always a slalom looking out for doors opening and people crossing to their cars. \u00a0Dumb dumb dumb).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not going to quote Weiner &#8211; because I really just did explain the article; &#8220;build bike lanes because Yay Saint Paul&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I mean, read it. \u00a0Am I wrong?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A friend of this blog writes: I don&#8217;t know about you, but most of the people think of the bicycle lobby as the leisure class, so it is interesting that one of them is now admitting that we lower class taxpayers are indeed building this infrastructure for the elites.
