{"id":5411,"date":"2009-09-15T07:33:28","date_gmt":"2009-09-15T12:33:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=5411"},"modified":"2009-09-15T07:33:28","modified_gmt":"2009-09-15T12:33:28","slug":"it-was-around-twenty-years-ago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=5411","title":{"rendered":"It Was Around Twenty Years Ago&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;that the first signs of democracy started breaking out among the lumpen, terrorized masses of Eastern Europe.\u00a0 It was twenty years ago that people started casting off the shackles of one-party rule, of government that ruled for its own sake.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty years later, we have the chance to do the same here in Saint Paul.\u00a0 It&#8217;s primary day, and if you live in Saint Paul and are sick to the gills of ever-booming tax bills, bizarre spending priorities and a government that seeks only to perpetuate itself and its own power, today&#8217;s the day you can do something about it.<\/p>\n<p>Get out to your polling station and vote for <a href=\"http:\/\/evaformayor.com\/\">Eva Ng, the GOP-endorsed candidate<\/a> in the &#8220;non-partisan&#8221; runoff poll.\u00a0 The conventional wisdom says she might be the first GOP-endorsed candidate to get to the general election since Thermopylae was a Spartan suburb.\u00a0 And when we get her through the primary, the <em>real <\/em>work begins; next, we have two months to get her elected.\u00a0 And good lord, does this city need her.<\/p>\n<p>Need to find a polling station?\u00a0 Go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us\/\">SecState website<\/a>.\u00a0 Mark Ritchie has a list of all polling stations &#8211; although oddly, the station in my DFL-dominated neighborhood is listed three times&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> Kidding.\u00a0 I kid.\u00a0 Get out and vote for Eva Ng.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;that the first signs of democracy started breaking out among the lumpen, terrorized masses of Eastern Europe.\u00a0 It was twenty years ago that people started casting off the shackles of one-party rule, of government that ruled for its own sake.
