{"id":53718,"date":"2015-06-05T06:31:16","date_gmt":"2015-06-05T11:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=53718"},"modified":"2015-06-05T06:31:16","modified_gmt":"2015-06-05T11:31:16","slug":"settled-science-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=53718","title":{"rendered":"Settled Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<em>NYTimes\u00a0<\/em>sloooooowly backs away from the &#8220;Settled Science&#8221; of 47 years ago:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The New York Times just published an extraordinary \u201cretro report\u201d\u2014a short video paired with an article\u2014looking back at Paul Ehrlich\u2019s \u201cpopulation bomb\u201d theory, the fear that an uncontrolled human population would outstrip the ability of the Earth to support it.<br \/>\nThe Times lays out some of the evidence for the theory\u2019s failure, including the fact that the world\u2019s population was about 3.5 billion when Ehrlich first made his apocalyptic prognostications in 1968. It\u2019s 7 billion now, and we haven\u2019t starved, we haven\u2019t run out of resources, and we\u2019re better off than we\u2019ve ever been.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Although they never really admit wrongdoing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And the Times is still committed to an outgrowth of the same apocalyptic theory. It cites British journalist Fred Pearce: \u201cIn Mr. Pearce\u2019s view, the villain is not overpopulation but, rather, overconsumption. \u2018We can survive massive demographic change,\u2019 he said in 2011.
