Newberger&#8217;s &#8220;Katrina Bill&#8221;, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mngopac\/photos\/a.223706547798844.1073741828.219302818239217\/432633276906169\/?type=1&amp;theater\">which would bar the state government<\/a> from confiscating citizens&#8217; firearms during a state of emergency.<\/p>\n<p>How important is this? \u00a0As we speak, in Maryland, the government is clamping down on the availability of ammunition&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3593.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3593.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3593.JPG\" width=\"504\" height=\"672\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;which is another way of making civilian firearms useless. \u00a0Of course, during Hurricane Katrina, the local police went door-to-door, confiscating firearms. \u00a0Current Minnesota law allows the state governnment even more-onerous leeway than Maryland law.<\/p>\n<p>And a quick note to the &#8220;Minnesota&#8221; gun groups that advocate focusing only on &#8220;Constitutional Carry&#8221;; even if that were to pass, it wouldn&#8217;t affect state emergency powers.<\/p>\n<p>This bill needs to pass.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While legalizing firearm suppressors has gotten most of the attention this legislative session, I think the most vital part of the Public Safety Omnibus bill is Rep.
