{"id":52943,"date":"2015-04-24T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T11:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=52943"},"modified":"2015-04-23T17:08:22","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T22:08:22","slug":"52943","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=52943","title":{"rendered":"Our Brahmins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Even in the wake of\u00a0<em>Heller<\/em>\u00a0and <em>McDonald,\u00a0<\/em>Washington DC&#8217;s old-boy-and-girl network clamps down hard on civilian ownership of firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Except for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/417386\/dcs-outrageous-second-amendment-double-standard-charles-c-w-cooke\">celebrities, and members of the political class<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>By confirming that \u201cmembers of Congress may maintain firearms within the confines of their office\u201d and that they may transport otherwise illegal guns through the city \u2014 without any of the requisite checks, natch \u2014 the Metropolitan Police Department is effectively admitting that the standard rules do not apply to the political class. This, I suppose, should not be too surprising \u2014 this is the same police department, recall, that revealed earlier this year that it is happy to apply the city\u2019s strict firearms laws to everybody except celebrities \u2014 but it grates nevertheless. Clearly, had Representative Buck not been a member of Congress, his behavior would have rendered him in violation of a broad array of harsh regulations \u2014 many of which carry felony charges.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s reminiscent of the eighties and nineties in New York City, when the average schnook couldn&#8217;t get a permit to carry a gun &#8211; but celebrities (Bill Cosby, William F. Buckley), government officials, and even media figures like the radical anti-gun\u00a0<em>NYTimes<\/em>\u00a0publisher Arthur Sulzberger, could; it was all in the connections.<\/p>\n<p>But tying it directly to membership in the political class? \u00a0As Charles CW Cooke notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNo title of nobility shall be granted by the United States,\u201d the Constitution promises. Do tell.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed.<\/p>\n<p>With all the good news for gun owners lately, it&#8217;s hard &#8211; but essential &#8211; to keep in mind that the Orcs still hold sway in much of the country, and our freedom to defend our freedom is only incrementally safer than it was 30 years ago, and not until the last orc is wiped from public life will that change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Even in the wake of\u00a0Heller\u00a0and McDonald,\u00a0Washington DC&#8217;s old-boy-and-girl network clamps down hard on civilian ownership of firearms.
