{"id":52305,"date":"2015-03-30T10:00:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T15:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=52305"},"modified":"2015-03-30T10:09:50","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T15:09:50","slug":"the-elmer-gantries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=52305","title":{"rendered":"The Elmer Gantries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to Second Amendment rights groups, I&#8217;ve always said &#8220;let a thousand flowers bloom&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>You prefer to fight the national fight by proxy? \u00a0Send your $35 to the NRA. \u00a0Want to get more into the thick of things nationally? \u00a0Contribute to the Second Amendment Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Wanna affect what happens in the Minnesota legislature? \u00a0Support GOCRA. \u00a0Wanna affect who\u00a0<em>gets elected to\u00a0<\/em>the Legislature? \u00a0Support MNGOPAC. \u00a0Feel like taking it to the streets? \u00a0The Twin Cities Carry Forum is the place to go.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to donate money to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=39222\">organization<\/a> that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=39637\">seems to have little tie to Minnesota<\/a>, that is closely linked to a network of similar organizations that seem to do more harm than good in the legislature in other states (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=39619\">Iowa<\/a>, Colorado and Mississippi), which probably means it&#8217;s a good thing all that Minnesota fundraising has no visible impact in the Legislature itself?<\/p>\n<p>A bipartisan group of pro-Second-Amendment legislators would like to have a word with you about that:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3368.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_3368.png\" alt=\"IMG_3368.PNG\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This bipartisan group of legislators, most of whom have been key leaders in pushing back the Bloomberg-financed gun grab bills, are urging you not to be fooled.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;ve written a bit about &#8220;Minnesota Gun Rights&#8221;, as well as &#8220;Iowa Gun Owners&#8221; and the &#8220;National Association of Gun Rights&#8221; in the past year and a half. \u00a0And I get two questions about the subject:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Berg, aren&#8217;t you connected with GOCRA? \u00a0Isn&#8217;t this just trying to thin out the competition?&#8221;<\/strong>: \u00a0I&#8217;m &#8220;connected&#8221; with just about everyone in the Second Amendment movement. \u00a0I network like a madman. \u00a0Hello &#8211; I&#8217;m a blogger and talk show host; I go where the info is. And no &#8211; &#8220;competition&#8221; is good, where the goal is &#8220;who can be the first to drag Governor Flint-Smith kicking and screaming to the table to sign the legislation we want&#8221;. \u00a0As I believe I and the sixteen oversigned legislators have established, MGR isn&#8217;t really competing on that front.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;MGR stands for Constitutional Carry &#8211; GOCRA, the NRA and MNGOPAC don&#8217;t. \u00a0If we pass Constitutional Carry, we won&#8217;t need any of the other legislation. \u00a0Why waste time?&#8221;<\/strong>: \u00a0That&#8217;s a little like saying I&#8217;m swearing off dating until Morena Baccarin returns my calls. \u00a0I mean, if I get into a position where Morena Baccarin returns my calls, great &#8211; but until I do (and I&#8217;m not), what then? \u00a0 \u00a0Saying &#8220;We&#8217;ll accept nothing but Constitutional Carry, and any lesser legislation merely accedes to government&#8217;s power to regulate \u00a0your God-given right to self-defense&#8221;. \u00a0Which is true &#8211; in a philosophical sense. \u00a0The law is not philosophy. \u00a0If the Minnesota gun movement had adopted that idea in 1994, we&#8217;d still be begging our police chiefs for carry permits, mostly in vain. \u00a0And the simple fact is, until we get a pro-Second Amendment governor, and legislatures that are not just mostly pro-Second Amendment (as they are today) but very strongly so, we&#8217;re not going to get Constitutional Carry. \u00a0Minnesota is not Arizona or Wyoming or Alaska. \u00a0By the way, passing Constitutional Carry won&#8217;t solve many of the other gun related issues &#8211; like reciprocity, the Capitol felony trap, or the right to purchase in non-contiguous states. \u00a0It just won&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Isn&#8217;t &#8216;Shall Issue&#8217; just a moneymaker for the carry permit instructors that run GOCRA?&#8221;<\/strong>: \u00a0No more so than fund-raising over a pie-in-the-sky proposal that is years away from passage, assuming everything goes perfectly from an electoral perspective (which Minnesota Gun \u00a0Rights is doing absolutely nothing to assure).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to Second Amendment rights groups, I&#8217;ve always said &#8220;let a thousand flowers bloom&#8221;.
