{"id":51208,"date":"2015-02-10T12:00:18","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T18:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=51208"},"modified":"2015-02-09T19:58:10","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T01:58:10","slug":"money-in-politics-talk-dirty-to-the-dfl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=51208","title":{"rendered":"Money In Politics:  Talk Dirty To The DFL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DFL is in the midst of an extended campaign of sniveling about the amount of money in politics.<\/p>\n<p>A look at this list of independent expenditures registered from the 10 Minnesota House races that flipped last election shows you why:<\/p>\n<p>The DFL spent more. \u00a0Sometimes a helluvva lot more. \u00a0And it didn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 341px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_3251.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_3251.png\" alt=\"IMG_3251.PNG\" width=\"331\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy John Rouleau of the MN Jobs Coalition, via Twitter.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The candidate with the most indy spending in each race is color-flagged.<\/p>\n<p>Of 10 races, DFL groups outspent GOP groups in eight of them, notching a little over 10% more independent spending. \u00a0And that doesn&#8217;t even tell the whole story.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Remember all the whining <del>Zach Dorholt did<\/del>\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=4&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0CC8QFjAD&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Ftheuptake.org%2F2014%2F10%2F31%2Frecord-outside-spending-angers-candidates-it-is-supposed-to-help%2F&amp;ei=nmPZVOrrKM-1sATmqICYDg&amp;usg=AFQjCNEvT5MK-aF6anqqwWETfk4KMU_rUA&amp;sig2=bcI5yGfiyrzeBnTutDUjFQ&amp;bvm=bv.85761416,d.cWc\">Twin Cities media did on Zach Dorhold&#8217;s behalf<\/a> about big money in his district? \u00a0His independent expenditures were 20% higher than Knoblach&#8217;s.<\/li>\n<li>The GOP spent more on Peggy Bennet than the DFL wasted on Shannon Savick &#8211; by about $4,000. \u00a0That speaks to what a terrible campaign Savick ran, and what a lousy term she had in office &#8211; and the power of the grass roots that turned out to bounce her. \u00a0Don&#8217;t screw with the Second Amendment outstate!<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand &#8211; Erickson vs. Hancock (over 2:1 in favor of the DFLer) and Fritz vs. Daniel (almost 3:1 for the DFL?) \u00a0Holy cow.<\/li>\n<li>Against that, the GOP indies only outspent the DFL in two of the flips; the Bennet\/Savick race, as already noted, and a 15% margin in the Heintzelman\/Ward race.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So no wonder the DFL is so concerned about rationing money in politics; theirs didn&#8217;t work. \u00a0They need less competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The DFL is in the midst of an extended campaign of sniveling about the amount of money in politics.
