{"id":51165,"date":"2015-02-10T06:00:09","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T12:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=51165"},"modified":"2015-02-08T09:11:35","modified_gmt":"2015-02-08T15:11:35","slug":"unrealistic-expectations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=51165","title":{"rendered":"Unrealistic Expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Dayton <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.mprnews.org\/capitol-view\/2015\/02\/dayton-defends-pay-hikes-for-his-cabinet\/\">defends the pay raises he unilaterally gave out<\/a> to <del>key members of Minnesota&#8217;s political class<\/del> some of his senior underlings:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">Republicans say the raises are outrageous, especially because many commissioners were already making six-figure salaries. But Dayton said the salary hikes were necessary to attract and retain top talent to state government. He says it also puts state pay in line with other units of government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want the best people, and I want them to be able to support their families,\u201d Dayton said. \u201cObviously the salaries are a lot of money, but I\u2019ve had people leave state government, my commissioners, to go over to local governments and make 50 percent more than I was able to pay them.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what astounds me more; that Dayton can get away with this, or how it is he figures that local government is getting &#8220;the best people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The News Isn\u2019t Nearly Bad Enough\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=50956\">As we&#8217;ve seen<\/a>, lots of money doesn&#8217;t get &#8220;the best&#8230;&#8221; anything in government.<\/p>\n<p>Unless it&#8217;s not &#8220;the best&#8221; results they&#8217;re talking about&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Dayton defends the pay raises he unilaterally gave out to key members of Minnesota&#8217;s political class some of his senior underlings: Republicans say the raises are outrageous, especially because many commissioners were already making six-figure salaries.
