{"id":49004,"date":"2014-11-11T07:00:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-11T13:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=49004"},"modified":"2014-12-12T14:37:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-12T20:37:00","slug":"lying-criminal-or-both","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=49004","title":{"rendered":"Lying, Criminal Or Both?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an old saying; &#8220;success has a thousand fathers; failure is an orphan&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the Democrat party&#8217;s nationwide electoral humiliation, the left is looking for things to hang their hopes on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s human nature; the good guys were doing it two years ago, too.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s what the Democrats are hanging their hats on; in a blue state, a 67 year old governor who gets mistaken for his entrepreneur anscestors, a superannuated standup comic, and a couple of congressmen dragged out of mothballs at the Museum of Pettifogging eked out wins in a state where&#8230;they were expected to eke out wins.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But remember &#8211; whatever success there <em>is <\/em>has a thousand fathers.\u00a0 Er, parents.\u00a0 And the local left is stepping all over itself to claim their piece of the <del>success<\/del> less-failure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In These Times&#8221; is the sort of &#8220;progressive&#8221; publication you can imagine a room full of Grace Kellys producing.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t read it much, because it&#8217;s just not a challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/inthesetimes.com\/article\/17329\/how_did_minnesota_stay_blue_in_the_midterms_by_embracing_not_running_from_p\">But in their post mortem of the MN elections<\/a>, they made an interesting and, dare I say, surprising\u00a0claim.<\/p>\n<p>No, it&#8217;s not the callow reference to stereotypes.\u00a0 That&#8217;s no surprise from <em>any <\/em>&#8220;progressive&#8221; publication:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mike McIntee, who lives in Eagan and is executive producer [<em>Hah!\u00a0 &#8211; Ed<\/em>]\u00a0of The UpTake, a citizen journalism-driven, online video streaming website, has seen his first-ring suburb change politically. The residents of Eagan\u2019s cul-de-sacs no longer exclusively resemble an episode of The Brady Bunch, but include different ethnicities and low-income housing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;White People&#8221; = &#8220;Brady Bunch&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Huh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anyway &#8211; here&#8217;s the interesting part (emphasis added by me):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>McIntee also credits the work of <strong>Protect Minnesota<\/strong>, which works to end gun violence by turning it into a political issue in urban and suburban areas. <strong>Protect Minnesota sent out mailers this election season attacking candidates who opposed gun control<\/strong>. Its gun-safety champions who won on Tuesday include Ron Erhardt, who represents the suburb of Edina. Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association\u2019s influence may be waning in Minnesota. Three rural DFLers who were endorsed by the NRA all lost.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Protect Minnesota?<\/p>\n<p>The gun grabber group led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?tag=heather-martens\">Heather Martens<\/a>\u00a0known mainly for its comic ineptitude, has done more harm than &#8220;good&#8221; for the gun grabber movement in the past&#8230;couple of decades.\u00a0 They mobilize no significant people (a couple of dozen might turn out for a vital hearing, as opposed to hundreds of Real Americans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But what of their claims?\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>McIntee claims &#8220;Protect&#8221; Minnesota sent out &#8220;mailings attacking candidates<\/strong>&#8220;:\u00a0 Now, the Minnesota Human Rights community is pretty good at keeping tabs on what the orcs are doing.\u00a0 And nobody seems to have seen a &#8220;Protect Minnesota&#8221; mailer.\u00a0 None.\u00a0 Michael Bloomberg and the DFL both hit on guns &#8211; but both groups <em>carefully <\/em>excised the hapless &#8220;Protect Minnesota&#8221; from their strategy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What &#8220;Gun Safety Champions?&#8221;\u00a0 <\/strong>Protect MN is a lobbying group, not a PAC.\u00a0 Did they endorse candidates?\u00a0 If so ,they broke the law; lobbying groups can&#8217;t endorse candidates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They&#8217;re claiming credit for Ron Erhardt<\/strong>?\u00a0 If Mike McIntee or Heather Martens\u00a0wants to make the claim that guns were behind Ron Erhardt&#8217;s razor-thin win in Edina, feel perfectly free.\u00a0 But be ready to be slapped down hard.\u00a0 \u00a0It&#8217;s an absurd claim.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>They&#8217;re Claiming They Have The Momentum?<\/strong>:\u00a0 &#8220;Three rural DFLers endorsed by the NRA&#8221; lost &#8211; but then, most rural DFLers lost, whatever their NRA and MNGOPAC endorsement.\u00a0<em>The election wasn&#8217;t about guns<\/em>!\u00a0But even so, over 3\/4 of MNGOPAC&#8217;s endorsed candidates, GOP and DFL, won on election night &#8211; and many of the ones that lost in Greater Minnesota lost to other candidates with high GOCRA and MNGOPAC ratings.\u00a0 <strong>Either way, gun owners won<\/strong>.\u00a0 To claim the Gun Rights movement lost last Tuesday\u00a0is a Baghdad-Bob-level bit of delusion.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But delusion is Heather Martens&#8217; stock in trade.\u00a0 From the &#8220;Protect&#8221; MN website:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_49006\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.protectmn.org\/content\/gun-sense-takes-big-wins-2014-midterm-elections\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-49006\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-49006\" class=\" wp-image-49006 \" title=\"PM Delusion\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/PM-Delusion-300x120.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/PM-Delusion-300x120.png 300w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/PM-Delusion-500x200.png 500w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/PM-Delusion.png 707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-49006\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From the &#8220;P&#8221;M website. Click on the link to actually see it.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Look, &#8220;Progressives&#8221;; if it makes you sleep easier at night thinking that&#8230;:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark Dayton, who has spent the past two cycles trying to defuse Real American opposition by claiming <a title=\"Chanting Points Memo: Sixgun Mark\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=12713\">he has a couple of .357 Magnums at home <\/a>for self-defense, and<\/li>\n<li>Al Franken, who touches on guns as obliquely as his caucus will allow him to, and<\/li>\n<li>Rick Nolan, who ran away from the anti-gun movement (<a title=\"Danger To Self And Others\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=47389\">ineptly<\/a>), and<\/li>\n<li>Colin Peterson, with an NRA &#8220;A&#8221; rating, along with&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>11 new Republicans, all of them pro-gun, mostly MNGOPAC endorsed, all of them Second-Amendment-friendly, and<\/li>\n<li>a solidly pro-Human Rights MN House, with Michael Paymar&#8217;s Metrocrat caucus demoted to the cheap seats&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8230;are a &#8220;victory&#8221; for &#8220;gun safety?&#8221;\u00a0 Go for it!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Heather Martens&#8217; take, and it&#8217;s delusional&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;but I repeat myself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Note to Mike McIntee and the rest of the &#8220;progressive&#8221; feed trough; if that&#8217;s the best source you can pick, no wonder you guys are getting your asses kicked on Second Amendment issues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s an old saying; &#8220;success has a thousand fathers; failure is an orphan&#8221;.\u00a0 In the wake of the Democrat party&#8217;s nationwide electoral humiliation, the left is looking for things to hang their hopes on.\u00a0 It&#8217;s human nature; the good guys were doing it two years ago, too.
