It is the belief in things not seen.\u201d He seemed to be quoting from Hebrews 11:1, one of the most famous definitions of faith found in Sacred Scripture, but, whether intentional or not, he got its meaning completely wrong. The passage reads, \u201cFaith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.\u201d Faith is not a \u201cbelief\u201d in things not seen \u2014 which would be tautological and nonsensical \u2014 but the \u201csubstance\u201d or \u201cevidence\u201d of things not seen.
