{"id":47583,"date":"2014-10-01T06:30:00","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T11:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=47583"},"modified":"2014-10-19T16:22:05","modified_gmt":"2014-10-19T21:22:05","slug":"for-those-tired-of-that-smoke-up-their-skirt-feeling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=47583","title":{"rendered":"For Those Tired Of That &#8220;Smoke Up Their Skirt&#8221; Feeling."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Daytonomics<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0a noun, referring to economic conditions that look rosy on the surface, but worse and worse the more one examines them. \u00a0See also: &#8220;Potemkin&#8221;. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?attachment_id=35213\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-35213\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-35213\" title=\"DaytonDustbowl\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/DaytonDustbowl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The DFL is running the bulk of their state campaigns &#8211; the Legislature, the Constitutional Officers and Governor &#8211; on the notion that two years of Daytonomics have left Minnesota an economic powerhouse.<\/p>\n<p>Like squatters who move into an &#8220;Architectural Digest&#8221; house, there&#8217;s still some zing in the state&#8217;s economic elevator pitch &#8211; leftovers from ten years of at least partial GOP stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>But under the surface?<\/p>\n<p>There are three signs that the various editorial boards are doing their level best to avoid, or at the most downplay:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>State revenue <a href=\"http:\/\/politicsinminnesota.com\/2014\/06\/revenue-shortfall-gets-political\/\">keeps falling short of projections<\/a>. \u00a0It&#8217;s lagging because\u00a0<em>personal income tax withholding<\/em>\u00a0is slowing down. \u00a0They&#8217;re slowing down because personal income in Minnesota is\u00a0<em>not keeping pace\u00a0<\/em>with expectations as of the last budget session. \u00a0The fact that it means we&#8217;re heading for another deficit is the least of the issues; the economy isn&#8217;t that damn good.<\/li>\n<li>Along those same lines? \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/twincities\/morning_roundup\/2014\/09\/new-on-the-endangered-list-at-minnesota-zoo-the.html\">Minnesota Zoo is laying people off<\/a>.
