Saint Thomas University, a Twin Cities catholic school, has never tolerated conservative opinion or action. \u00a0Under their previous president, Father &#8220;Hanoi Dennis&#8221; Dease, they disinvited conservative speakers, harassed conservative newspapers, and &#8211; in 2000, when a Cuban national team baseball player in town to play an exhibition against Saint Thomas <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/americas\/742286.stm\">defected<\/a> at the airport, Dease forbade any Saint \u00a0Thomas students from harboring him.<\/p>\n<p>Dease is gone &#8211; he apparently retired last year &#8211; but his legacy lives on. \u00a0A Saint Thomas school mascot &#8211; some sort of rodent, I think &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=5896\">&#8220;wiped his rear&#8221; with Republican literature on campus<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Angie Hasek, Chairman of the Minnesota College Republicans, posted a brief description of the event on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">\u201cTommie Mascot just wiped his rear with some GOP lit. I wouldn&#8217;t have expected someone at UST to stoop to that level.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTolerance at its finest,\u201d Hasek said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the university\u2019s website, the Tommie Mascot Team consists of up to six undergraduate students with the goal of \u201cfoster[ing] school spirit in a positive and professional manner.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The headline is sarcastic, of course.
