{"id":4695,"date":"2009-04-30T06:56:21","date_gmt":"2009-04-30T11:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4695"},"modified":"2009-04-30T06:56:21","modified_gmt":"2009-04-30T11:56:21","slug":"with-da-niews-i-am-rajiv-brahmaputra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4695","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;With Da Niews, I Am Rajiv Brahmaputra&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to David Brauer, the Twin Cities&#8217; Clear Channel stations are outsourcing their news.<\/p>\n<p>Not to Bangalore, Manila or Mumbai, funny as that would be.\u00a0 But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2009\/04\/29\/8442\/non-local_non-local_non-local#94-8442\">almost as good:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Not that anyone listens to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clearchannel.com\/Radio\/StationSearch.aspx?RadioSearch=minneapolis\">local Clear Channel radio family<\/a> (KFAN, K102, KOOL 108, KDWB, Cities 97) for the newscasts, but amid <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2009\/04\/28\/8408\/clear_channel_cuts_kfans_mr_phunn_ktlks_perry_kools_donovan\">budget-slashing<\/a>, the Denver Post <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/business\/ci_12248182\">reports<\/a> the Mile High City&#8217;s <span id=\"redesign_default\">KOA-AM &#8220;will now provide news for four other markets: Colorado Springs\/Pueblo, Ft. Collins, Minneapolis and Ft. Smith, Arkansas.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The biggest impact might be felt at conservative talk station KTLK, where host-newscaster chatter has at time produced some <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/items\/200810030004\">interesting<\/a> exchanges. I can&#8217;t wait to hear some Colorado drone get Little Rock, Red Rocks and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sctimes.com\/article\/20090429\/NEWS01\/104290034\/1048\/NEWS08\">Rocori<\/a> mixed up. Talk about your Rocky Mountain <em>oy<\/em>-sters!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Har.<\/p>\n<p>Well, good for Denver, anyway.\u00a0 KOA &#8211; the WCCO of Denver &#8211; has always had a commitment to doing commercial radio news; if they have a niche that&#8217;ll keep some jobs open, good for them. Expect more of this sort of thing.<\/p>\n<p>More interesting, perhaps?\u00a0 Brauer calls KTLK &#8220;conservative&#8221;.\u00a0 Now, when KTLK-FM went on the air, it steered aggressively down the middle; it had drunk the post-&#8217;04 Koolaid that &#8220;conservative talk is dead&#8221;, so other than Limbaugh and Hannity the station steered well clear of the &#8220;conservative&#8221; label.<\/p>\n<p>But with Chris Baker, Limbaugh, Hannity, Jason Lewis and Glenn Beck anchoring the station these days, it&#8217;d seem the consultants were wrong again. Which should shock nobody that&#8217;s ever worked in radio, but it&#8217;s nice to see the market put a bullet in that meme&#8217;s head once and for all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to David Brauer, the Twin Cities&#8217; Clear Channel stations are outsourcing their news.
