The police create an obligation to protect you only if they go out of their way to make the situation worse than it was before they intervened.<br \/>\nThe obvious implication of this \u201cno obligation\u201d ruling \u2013 coupled with the Supreme Court\u2019s holding that individuals have a Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms for self-defense \u2013 is that the fundamental legal principle of public security in American law is . . . you\u2019re on your own.<br \/>\nWhich Conservatives have known all along, but it\u2019s nice to see the Courts spell it out so clearly for us.
