{"id":4615,"date":"2009-04-21T06:46:36","date_gmt":"2009-04-21T11:46:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4615"},"modified":"2009-04-21T06:46:36","modified_gmt":"2009-04-21T11:46:36","slug":"historically-accurate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4615","title":{"rendered":"Historically Accurate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I noted that some scolds on the left were tut-tutting about the &#8220;historical accuracy&#8221; of calling tax protests &#8220;Tea Parties&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Being me, the English major, I noted that &#8220;language changes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Steyn being Mark Steyn, he noted that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/articles\/tea-interests-tax-2367296-boston-parties\">they&#8217;re wrong; it is <em>perfectly <\/em>historically accurate <\/a>(emphasis added):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>OK, to be less absolutist about it, my interests include finding a road at the end of my drive every morning, and modern equipment for the (volunteer) fire department and a functioning military to deter the many predators out there, and maybe one or two other things. But 95 percent of the rest is not just &#8220;special interests&#8221; but social engineering \u2013 a $400 tax credit for falling into line with Barack Obama and Susan Roesgen. That&#8217;s why these are Tea Parties \u2013 because the heart of the matter is the same question posed two-and-a-third centuries ago: <strong>Are Americans subjects or citizens<\/strong>?
