{"id":4363,"date":"2009-03-10T06:13:40","date_gmt":"2009-03-10T11:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4363"},"modified":"2009-03-10T06:13:40","modified_gmt":"2009-03-10T11:13:40","slug":"de-surging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=4363","title":{"rendered":"De-Surging"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Coalition currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.longwarjournal.org\/archives\/2009\/03\/coalition_cuts_comba.php\">has about half the combat troops, and 1\/3 of the overall troops, in Iraq<\/a>\u00a0as at the beginning of the Surge.\u00a0 The discrepancy is due to so many of the remaining troops being in support units &#8211; logistics, transportation, intelligence, signals and other specialties where the Iraqi military is lagging while building combat units.<\/p>\n<p>Looks like President Obama is having the planned impact in reversing Bush Administration policy in country!<\/p>\n<p>Or&#8230;not:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The cycle of coalition reductions is <strong>still based on the <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.longwarjournal.org\/archives\/2008\/08\/iraqis_standing_up.php\"><font color=\"#4b52a6\"><strong>brief by General Petraeus<\/strong><\/font><\/a><strong> to the US House and Senate on Sept. 11, 2007<\/strong>. Just replace the word \u201coverwatch\u201d with \u201ctraining\u201d on the briefing slide. Each six months (March and September), military planners determine the next reductions. The commanders have just announced the reduction from 15 to 12 combat brigades. In September, they will probably announce the further reduction to 10. Next March, they will be looking at reducing to seven \u201ctraining\u201d brigades by September of 2010. In September 2010, they will be looking at reducing to five \u201ctraining\u201d brigades.
