{"id":42586,"date":"2014-03-21T12:05:39","date_gmt":"2014-03-21T17:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=42586"},"modified":"2014-11-19T17:29:08","modified_gmt":"2014-11-19T23:29:08","slug":"our-passive-aggressive-overlords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=42586","title":{"rendered":"Our Passive-Aggressive Overlords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went down to the Capitol last night for a 6PM hearing on <a href=\"http:\/\/https\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/bills\/text.php?number=SF2639&amp;version=0&amp;session=ls88&amp;session_year=2014&amp;session_number=0\">SF2639<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Senator Ron Latz&#8217;s bill to punish people accused <em>but not convicted <\/em>of domestic abuse by confiscating their guns and <em>keeping <\/em>them confiscated, innocence notwithstanding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We started out on a high note; Michael Paymar&#8217;s att<a href=\"http:\/\/https\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/bills\/text.php?number=SF2639&amp;version=0&amp;session=ls88&amp;session_year=2014&amp;session_number=0\">empt to create a felony trap for law-abiding gun <\/a>owners in Capitol-complex buildings got turned into a fairly innocuous tweak to the existing notification law.\u00a0 The law, by the way, dates to 1994, and is utterly obsolete, a relic of a time when law enforcement still kept records on paper files.\u00a0 The notification law\u00a0is obsolete and needs to be\u00a0gutted and tossed entirely &#8211; but for now, it&#8217;s no big deal.<\/p>\n<p>So I showed up\u00a0at the Capitol.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As usual, I was among plenty of friends:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42578\" style=\"width: 1724px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?attachment_id=42578\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42578\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42578\" class=\" wp-image-42578 \" title=\"IMG_2342\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2342.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1714\" height=\"2285\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2342.jpg 2448w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2342-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2342-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1714px) 100vw, 1714px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42578\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The nose count, last I checked, was 70-75 civil rights supporters to about a dozen civil rights opponents.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I did a nose-count; Real Americans outnumbered\u00a0people there for &#8220;Protect MN&#8221;, as usual, by a lopsided margin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So we waited.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Strategizing got done&#8230;:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42579\" style=\"width: 477px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?attachment_id=42579\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42579\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42579\" class=\" wp-image-42579 \" title=\"IMG_2344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2344-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"467\" height=\"622\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2344-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2344-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 467px) 100vw, 467px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42579\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GOCRA leaders churning on strategy.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8230;but for the most part, everyone waited.\u00a0 And waited some more.<\/p>\n<p>There were several updates from security; they were busy with other bills; they were going to get through a few more and then take a half hour break before getting to 2639.<\/p>\n<p>So we waited some more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42583\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?attachment_id=42583\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42583\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42583\" class=\"size-large wp-image-42583\" title=\"IMG_2353\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2353-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"778\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2353-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/IMG_2353-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42583\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A few cases of water bottles, courtest of GOCRA, made the rounds. It was warm in there.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>GOCRA brought water and granola bars, which theypassed out up and down the line (including to the anti-rights people; I had the singular pleasure of giving water and a granola bar to Rep. Martens).<\/p>\n<p>They took the half-hour break &#8211; which ran more like an hour.\u00a0 And then they re-convened &#8211; and addressed the Fetal DNA bill.\u00a0 For an hour.<\/p>\n<p>I had to leave; I was fighting a cold, and had to work this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Latz didn&#8217;t bring up his gun-grab bill until nearly 11 &#8211; after he&#8217;d let Heather Martens and her friends in through the back door, essentially packing the hearing room with his supporters.\u00a0 Latz has set himself apart, along with Reps.
