{"id":40452,"date":"2013-12-13T12:00:37","date_gmt":"2013-12-13T18:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=40452"},"modified":"2013-12-11T07:04:45","modified_gmt":"2013-12-11T13:04:45","slug":"the-band-i-always-wanted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=40452","title":{"rendered":"The Band I Always Wanted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some guys grew up fantasizing about the car they wanted, someday.<\/p>\n<p>For others, it was the gun, the girl, the guitar.<\/p>\n<p>I did all of those, naturally (&#8217;67 Mustang, HK91, Marisa Tomei, 1959 Les Paul Standard).<\/p>\n<p>But above all? \u00a0When I was a kid &#8211; and not so much a kid &#8211; I used to fantasize about the band I&#8217;d have someday.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, the dream focused on some combination of two guitars, keyboards, bass and drums. \u00a0Nice and flexible, allows for all sorts of combinations of guitar sounds. \u00a0Sorta like Tom Petty and the classic Heartbreakers (here with an added sax player and background singer, which I&#8217;d also dig):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yONs2C6od-g\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Of course, through much of the eighties &#8211; and (koff) the nineties, I thought it&#8217;d be fun to have something a little bigger, less garage-y, frighteningly tight, and danceable.<\/p>\n<p>Like INXS:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cu_aTZPil4k\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Although that&#8217;d mean recruiting someone else to sing.  And lead singers are a pain.  <\/p>\n<p>At various times, I&#8217;ve thought &#8220;screw it &#8211; I&#8217;m gonna go full Stax\/Volt&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xkEV8GeuTn4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And truth be told, that&#8217;s where I&#8217;m at right now; a band that is something like the classic Asbury Jukes lineup, complete with the horn section.  <\/p>\n<p>But then I remember all the crap that goes into keeping all the personalities in even a four piece band together, and I think &#8220;screw it; I&#8217;ll do a power trio&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"236\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qYO4zLY-Nag\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Of course, as always, I&#8217;ll stick with &#8220;whatever I can find&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>Er, when I start another band&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some guys grew up fantasizing about the car they wanted, someday.
