Stat. 517.201<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">&#8220;Subd. 2.Rules of construction. When necessary to implement the rights and responsibilities of spouses or parents in a civil marriage between persons of the same sex under the laws of this state, including those that establish parentage presumptions based on a civil marriage, gender-specific terminology, such as &#8220;husband,&#8221; &#8220;wife,&#8221; &#8220;mother,&#8221; &#8220;father,&#8221; &#8220;widow,&#8221; &#8220;widower,&#8221; or similar terms, must be construed in a neutral manner to refer to a person of either gender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Good news, Mitch, you are no longer a Husband or Father, you now are a person of either gender implementing the rights and responsibilities of a spouse and parent.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, I prefer &#8220;Interchangeable Marital Unit&#8221; or since we all know which role men are assigned in divorce court: &#8220;Cash Cow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Joe Doakes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joe Doakes from Como Park emails: The big news at the Minnesota Continuing Legal Education Real Estate Institute was same-sex marriage passed this Summer and how does that affect spousal rights in Minnesota?
