{"id":3760,"date":"2008-12-05T13:22:01","date_gmt":"2008-12-05T18:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=3760"},"modified":"2008-12-05T13:22:01","modified_gmt":"2008-12-05T18:22:01","slug":"going-all-air-america-on-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=3760","title":{"rendered":"Going All &#8220;Air America&#8221; On Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Steve &#8220;Mister Furious&#8221; Perry <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2008\/12\/04\/5007\/steve_perry_out_at_minnesota_independent\">is out<\/a>\u00a0at the <em>Minnesoros &#8220;Independent&#8221;<\/em>, says David Brauer:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is the other shoe dropping after MnIndy&#8217;s parent, Center for Independent Media, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2008\/11\/10\/4502\/minnesota_independent_makes_post-election_cuts\" target=\"_self\">announced<\/a> last month that the staff was being pared, freelance budget eliminated, and editing centralized in Washington, D.C.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Independent&#8221; media with &#8220;centralized&#8221; editing!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"image_component right mp_main_half with_caption\">\n<div class=\"caption_credit\">CIM, a nonprofit, has been under fire locally for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/braublog\/2008\/11\/10\/4508\/robson_birkey_gone_in_minnesota_independent_cutbacks\" target=\"_blank\">badgering<\/a> its staff to, in the words of ex-freelancer Britt Robson, run &#8220;stories that embarrassed Republicans and promoted Democrats.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"richtext\">That ran counter to Perry&#8217;s &#8220;pox-on-all-power&#8221; ethos honed to a knife&#8217;s edge during his many years as City Pages&#8217; editor.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/koolaidreport.blogspot.com\/2008\/12\/youd-be-better-off-alone-if-im-not-who.html\">Learned Foot is right<\/a> &#8211; Perry did a lot more poxing the right than the left over the years, and there <em>was <\/em>a reason he worked for a left-leaning group\u00a0and was in charge of an assembly of committed lefties\u00a0that\u00a0&#8211; I&#8217;ll give him that much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"richtext\">Under Perry, City Pages overtook the Twin Cities Reader as the top local alt-weekly; [<em>although the Reader&#8217;s complete demise in 1991 may have helped that &#8211; Ed<\/em>.]\u00a0since his February hiring, MnIndy&#8217;s traffic has soared, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sitemeter.com\/?a=stats&#038;s=s26minnmon&#038;r=36\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> chart demonstrates. It was definitely a team effort\u00a0\u2014 reaching a high point during the Republican National Convention\u00a0\u2014 but Perry hired several members of that team.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"richtext\">And the world thanks him for keeping Karl Bremer in the headlines.\u00a0 (Whooee).<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"richtext\"><strong>Update II:<\/strong> A Perry ex-colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymole.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">asks<\/a> whether Perry&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymole.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Mole<\/a> will make a comeback.
