As I noted the earlier<\/strike> in a piece I thought I’d posted Friday<\/a>, but did not, Sisyphus at Nihilist In Golf Pants<\/em><\/a>\u00a0commented on the State Arts Board’s grants\u00a0of taxpayer money<\/a>\u00a0to “promising” “Minnesota” artists and their art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, for years I’ve said that conservatives need to get engaged <\/em>in the world of the arts; to stop ceding this utterly important aspect of the human condition to the\u00a0grant-pimps, the pseudoacademic weenies – the left<\/em>.\u00a0 Conservatives need to make their presences felt in literature, music, theatre, film, multi-media, comedy (albeit I think we can, and must, continue to cede dance to the left, since I have no idea how to take a conservative swipe at that particular medium.\u00a0 I’m open to suggestions).\u00a0<\/p>\n

In this spirit, Sisyphus takes\u00a0a game swat<\/a> at proposing his own grant applications (and, it seems, granting them, if only fictionally):<\/p>\n

1. $3,000 to purchase extra large glass basin and cases of light beer for composition of art work in which an entire year’s worth of Nick Coleman columns are submerged in the collective artists’ urine.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sisyphus makes a fantastic effort at getting the ball rolling.\u00a0 But we need to build on this to achieve more.<\/p>\n

So here’s your assignment:\u00a0 Read the State Arts Board’s list of grants.\u00a0 And fill in your own applications in the comment section.\u00a0 We’ll be taking applications for<\/p>\n
