{"id":37208,"date":"2013-07-11T12:00:34","date_gmt":"2013-07-11T17:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=37208"},"modified":"2013-07-11T11:57:06","modified_gmt":"2013-07-11T16:57:06","slug":"the-show-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=37208","title":{"rendered":"The Show Trial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Josef Stalin called.<\/p>\n<p>He wants his theatrical version of a &#8220;justice&#8221; system back.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama&#8217;s Justice Department was <a href=\"http:\/\/pjmedia.com\/tatler\/2013\/07\/10\/newly-released-documents-detail-the-department-of-justices-role-in-organizing-trayvon-martin-protests\/\">involved in organizing protests <\/a>around the Martin\/Zimmerman trial, and according to Sanford&#8217;s police chief, <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2013\/07\/10\/justice\/sanford-bill-lee-exclusive\/index.html\">hijacked what should have been a local investigation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bill Lee, who testified Monday in Zimmerman&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/07\/10\/justice\/zimmerman-trial\/index.html\">second-degree murder trial<\/a>, told CNN&#8217;s George Howell in an exclusive interview that he felt pressure from city officials to arrest Zimmerman to placate the public rather than as a matter of justice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was (relayed) to me that they just wanted an arrest. They didn&#8217;t care if it got dismissed later,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You don&#8217;t do that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When Sanford police arrived on the scene on February 26, 2012, after Zimmerman fatally shot unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, they conducted a &#8220;sound&#8221; investigation, and the evidence provided no probable cause to arrest Zimmerman at the scene, he said.<\/p>\n<p>It had nothing to do with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/02\/22\/justice\/florida-stand-your-ground-law\">Florida&#8217;s controversial &#8220;Stand Your Ground&#8221; law<\/a>, he said; from an investigative standpoint, it was purely a matter of self-defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The part that annoys me the most about this trial?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not just that everyone has picked their sides, based purely on political grounds &#8211; even though that&#8217;s supposed to be the jury&#8217;s job.<\/p>\n<p>No &#8211; it&#8217;s that our federal government is doing to this trial what they tried to do with &#8220;Fast and Furious&#8221;; use it to general political benefit for the Administration.\u00a0 In this case, using a dead 17 year old &#8211; whatever the circumstances &#8211; as a stage prop to whip up an electoral response in time for the election.\u00a0 And they&#8217;ll try to do the same for the next round of elections, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I use the term &#8220;show trial&#8221; advisedly; that&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/Big-Government\/2013\/07\/10\/Judicial-watch-exclusive-no-trial\">exactly <\/a>what the Administration is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2013\/07\/did-the-department-of-justice-stir-up-trayvon-martin-riots.php\">trying <\/a>to turn it into.<\/p>\n<p>The trial is, in a sense, the least of the problems coming out of this sorry episode.\u00a0 Our Federal government has added &#8220;using the system&#8221; to &#8220;using their proxies in the media&#8221; to affect the &#8220;justice&#8221; system toward political ends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They can do it to anyone.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s an old saying: &#8220;when the people fear the government, you have dictatorship.\u00a0 When the people fear the government, you have freedom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The government is surely afraid of us; they call half of us &#8220;terrorists&#8221;.\u00a0 But I wouldn&#8217;t call what we have now &#8220;freedom&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Josef Stalin called.
