{"id":36753,"date":"2013-06-14T06:30:55","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T11:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36753"},"modified":"2013-06-14T06:53:32","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T11:53:32","slug":"our-bitchy-overlords","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36753","title":{"rendered":"Our Bitchy Overlords"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They said that if I voted Republican, that government officials would launch vendettas against dissidents and dissenters.<\/p>\n<p>And they were right!<\/p>\n<p>A Texas high school principal has launched a vendetta against a student who gave a flaming counterculture speech&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;referencing<a href=\"http:\/\/radio.foxnews.com\/toddstarnes\/top-stories\/school-threatens-to-ruin-valedictorians-naval-academy-appt.html\">\u00a0God and the Constitution<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">[Remington] Reimer, a senior at Joshua High School, made national headlines on June 6 when officials cut off his microphone in mid-speech after he strayed from pre-approved remarks and began talking about his relationship with Jesus Christ.<\/span><br \/>\nReimer, who has received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy, thanked God for \u201csending His only son to die for me and the rest of the world,\u201d the Joshua Star reported.<br \/>\nThe following day the principal met with Reimer\u2019s father and informed him \u201cthat he intended to punish Remington for his perceived misdeed.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cSpecifically, <strong>he threatened to send a letter to the United States Naval Academy advising them that Remington has poor character or words to that effect<\/strong>,\u201d Sasser told Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>After consulting with a school attorney, the principal temporarily retracted the threat, Sasser said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Just a liberal snit that got overblown?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">Principal Mick Cochran defended the school\u2019s decision to cut off the audio feed.<\/span><br \/>\n\u201cThe district has reviewed the rules and policies regarding graduation speeches and has determined that the policy was followed last night,\u201d he told the Star.<br \/>\nThe Joshua ISD issued a statement to MyFoxDFW noting, \u201cstudent speakers were told that if their speeches deviated from the prior-reviewed material, the microphone would be turned off, regardless of content. When one student\u2019s speech deviated from the prior-reviewed speech, the microphone was turned off, pursuant to District policy and procedure.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nothing, naturally, about launching a vendetta to try to screw up the kid&#8217;s adult life.<\/p>\n<p>The only real question I have: \u00a0when will Mr. Cochran be hired as the Saint Paul superintendant?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They said that if I voted Republican, that government officials would launch vendettas against dissidents and dissenters.
