{"id":36751,"date":"2013-06-14T12:10:39","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T17:10:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36751"},"modified":"2013-06-14T07:26:46","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T12:26:46","slug":"were-doomed-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36751","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;re Doomed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If the younger generation are our future&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;then <a href=\"http:\/\/jimromenesko.com\/2013\/06\/13\/duke-student-urges-trustee-not-to-sell-tribune-papers-to-koch-brothers\/\">we are screwed blue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jimromenesko.com\/2013\/06\/13\/duke-student-urges-trustee-not-to-sell-tribune-papers-to-koch-brothers\/\">Duke student calls Duke alum and media exec to threaten &#8220;student action&#8221;<\/a> if the alum, Bruce Karsh of the Tribune newspaper chain, sells the newspaper chain to <del>the left&#8217;s current boogeymen<\/del> the Koch brothers:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Duke University student Lucas Spangher had a 40-minute phone conversation with Oaktree Capital Management CEO and Tribune chairman Bruce Karsh \u2013 a Duke grad and trustee \u2013 about the possible sale of Tribune\u2019s newspapers to the Koch brothers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">\u201cThe conversation was fairly unproductive or negative,\u201d says Spangher, a former Duke Chronicle columnist whose interests include green energy technology. \u201cHis primary purpose for calling me [back] was to explain his side of the story rather than listening to my arguments.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m trying to think of a college bobblehead&#8217;s argument on\u00a0<em>any\u00a0<\/em>subject, much less business, that I&#8217;d listen to for any reason at all.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got nothing.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing:<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">Spangher is personally opposed to the sale because the Koch brothers have given money to support scientific studies that will deny climate change&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-style: italic;\">Spangher says he told Karsh that \u201cstudents are watching \u2014 Duke is aware of the situation.\u201d He adds: \u201cI appreciate the things he\u2019s done for Duke, but if this goes down, there could be student action.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Goody. \u00a0I can hardly wait.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of &#8220;can hardly wait&#8221;, I&#8217;m going to go long on &#8220;rip-proof garment&#8221; stocks for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/eric-black-ink\/2013\/06\/selling-star-tribune-koch-some-day-could-happen-chairman-says\">when Minnesota liberals get a load of this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also: Selling the Star Tribune to the Koch brothers some day \u201ccould happen\u201d (minnpost.com)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If the younger generation are our future&#8230; &#8230;then we are screwed blue.
