{"id":36392,"date":"2013-05-20T05:00:37","date_gmt":"2013-05-20T10:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36392"},"modified":"2014-03-12T13:34:24","modified_gmt":"2014-03-12T18:34:24","slug":"restatement-of-principles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=36392","title":{"rendered":"Restatement Of Principles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve opposed the death penalty for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>I actually support it, for every reason but one &#8211; the inevitability of executing the wrong person (and it appears all but inevitable that there&#8217;s been at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/05\/19\/cameron-todd-willingham-exoneration_n_1524868.html\">least one and possibly two erroneous executions<\/a> in recent years). \u00a0 Executing the wrong person is a double crime; society kills an innocent person, and a guilty party goes free, leaving a terrible crime unpaid-for.<\/p>\n<p>So I oppose the death penalty for one reason, and one only.<\/p>\n<p>But there are cases were, I gotta confess, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2325786\/Douglas-Karpen-Second-house-horrors-abortion-clinic-investigated-Texas.html\">I&#8217;m really just going through the motions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\">(The suspect is innocent until proven guilty)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve opposed the death penalty for a long time.
